Soccer practice.
Time to wind down.
8 laps around the perimeter.
I hear groans.
First lap.
Starting near the last of the pack.
Don't let it get to me. Let the run take over.
Pass one person. See their face blur by.
Final turn.
Keep running coach says.
I let my mind wander.
Its the only way.
The next laps are a blur.
I set my pace, second in line.
Let the cold air whip my face.
Feel my legs loosening.
Last lap.
He's a few feet in front of me.
Burn it up.
I have nothing to lose.
Breathing steadily now.
Almost done.
Let my legs do the work.
It's up to this last 100 yards.
Pass him.
Must finish first.
Burn it up.
Good job coach says.
I collapse to the ground.
