So confident are NASA that the apocalypse will not happen on December 21st that they have released a video 10 days ahead of schedule entitled 'Why the World Didn't End Yesterday'.
Outlining point by point each of the so called 'myths' that surround the end of the Mayan calendar, astronomical and planetary experts debunk any notions that the sun will irradiate the atmosphere or that a rogue planet will smash into our Earth.
But while no soul will be around to point and laugh at anyone from the U.S. space agency should they be wrong, NASA scientists seem so sure that life will go on that the video meant to be released on December 22nd was put out yesterday.

Mayans just computed a calendar and decided to end it when the planets lined up. Nothing more to it than that really.

i heard that the person who was put in charge of the calendars creation died before it was finished and they didnt bother getting someone else to finish it

Hadn't heard that. Don't worry, the weekend is coming, so I'm sure we'll see all kinds of multimedia showing how the planets line up and why people think that would be a danger and then explain why it isn't.
I pretty certain abt why they stopped the calendar. It's not like they marked 12-21-12 as "the world ends" it's more like when you make a calendar for a year and end it on the 31st, but in Myan culture, they used the stars for navigation and time measurement, marking of the seasons etc. So if they make a calendar that starts and ends with the planets lined up, it's a completed work for them, because after that, it just repeats.

i personally dont think its gonna happen right now
maybe in a couple hundred years it will happen but by then scientists will have the technology to transport humans to mars like theyre planning
this is all just a way for companies to make money....and its working
like insurance companies are making millions.... see what i mean
its complete crap

The Mayans never, in anything they left behind, said that the world would end on December 21. Their calendar ended on that date, the 13th baktun. Any Mayan expert will tell you that it's the equivalent of us having to buy a new calendar at the end of the year, not a mark of the end of the world as we know it. Like Gordo said, at that point their calendar was a completed work. This whole doomsday theory actually came about in the 70s/80s when a leading member of the New Age Movement wrote a book (he admitted he wrote it while he was high) about the Mayans, December 21, 2012, and the end of the world. That's where all this nonsense comes from. My personal opinion? It's just going to be another Y2K event, just like (almost) 13 years ago.

I'm at a concert when the world is meant to end so either NASA better be right and the Mayans wrong or I have to miss Hardwell. In all seriousness though I think it's white redicukous anyone believed this to begin with.

I personally don't think this will happen. Just because the Mayan calendar ends would simply mean a new calendar will start, just like we will enter 2013 when the calendar of 2012 ends
