so as many of you know, i wrestle at my school and today at practice when we had our live wrestling sessions(3 to 4 6 minute matches), one of the guys snapped me forward and i felt something go pop in the circled area:

went to go and see the sports trainer(sports physician) and he said it was nothing major. just use R.I.C.E. The thing is i can't bend forward, backwards, or sideways. so has anyone ever hurt themselves so they can't bend? if so, what was the problem(pulled/strained muscle, torn ligament, spine injury)? and how did you cure it and how long did it take?

on RICE you need to be aware that is short term first aid advice, not necessarily the right thing for longer term. So after 24 hours its less helpful.

Cool packs are fine to reduce swelling first aid, but longer term recovery needs warmth to keep the area well circulated and the muscles malleable. Warm baths, heat packs, heat lamps, whatever you have. Some people supposedly prefer cold packs, but if it makes you stiffen up its probably not a good thing.
Complete rest is not a good thing for backs (eg NHS advice (http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Back-pain/Pages/Treatment.aspx)), gentle movement helps prevent surrounding muscles from spasming, and allows any displaced vertebrae to realign.
Avoid any training or lifting, and even when you pick up your book bag bend with your legs and keep your back aligned and neutral (as if you were doing squats).

I had physio on my back when I was little, can't really remember too much about what they did (wasn't paying attention due to pain) but it took a few weeks to feel normal, and I ended up giving up dancing (which is how I hurt it) and take up swimming instead. I was advised I needed to work on my core to build strength up around my lats, obliques and abs to help support my spine.

i know that RICE is for short term treatment, but my schools sports trainer told me to do it and then go to his office the next day. it is better but i probably can't wrestle at this weekend's tournament :/

I'll just say I hurt my feet in soccer and saw my trainer. He was an idiot. I went to my doctor when they didn't get better. Turns out something different was wrong. If the pain is there still see your doctor. A second opinion never hurts!

i would go see a Dr. he may put you in PT which would likely heal your back the fastest. i had something like this during football in my knee. i played the with injury for 2 months and my trainers said it signifigant injury but to stop when i felt pain. i quit football when it got to where i could barely bend my leg parallel to the floor. i went to the Dr who said it was a ligament strain that caused swelling internally. the injury happened 4 months ago and im still hurt. you need to see a Dr just in case
