I am currently addicted to snapchat. If you haven't heard of it it's basically an app where you can send pictures. But there's a twist. The pictures delete themselves after 10 seconds or less, depending on what you set.

What are your opinions?

Note: this is NOT a thread to share your snapchat usernames. Any posts containing these will be edited and you may receive an infraction.

That sounds interesting, but quite dangerous... Who knows what could happen to those photos...

Doesn't sound like something I'd be into if I am being honest. But I can see a lot of people liking it.

Sounds...

quite stupid.

I have no idea why you would send a picture and then get it deleted, unless it was something you didn't want saved, but then, why would you send it?

Maybe some people will enjoy this but I don't see the use in it. But for the sake of defending what I've said, I'll give it a go anyway.

Is our society coming to the point where we no longer use words in text messages, just pictures?

For sending ugly selfies to friends, or spur of the moment pictures, or maybe even something on your screen you want your friend to see but they don't need to keep. I had your viewpoint at the beginning but I have discovered it actually has many uses.

It really isn't a useful app at all; but I will admit that it can be quite funny sometimes. If you're doing it with the right people it can be a laugh. Most kids in my school use it, including myself.

I don't get it. How can you effectively understand the message of one photo, in less than 10 seconds?

Not every picture is a Pissat painting :p

Its a pretty cool app, I just wonder how many people use it only for nude photos lol. I think its cool how it tells you if someone takes a screenshot though, that probably keeps people from sending too much bad stuff. Like everyone in my school except me (cause my phone is old and terrible) uses it 24/7. All the freshman at my school got iPads this year, and they tell me its pretty much all they do in class.

Yes, well I'm no Impressionist. Seems irritating, but eh, that's just me.

I have yet to download it. I'll give it a go, but I still see no point in it. There's a reason that you can send pictures via texts.

I have no clue as to what it is but everyone in my chemistry class goes gaga over it. Especially when the video update came out.

Honestly, I can only see something like that irritating me :| Besides? What is it for? I mean, OS wise. I'm assuming it's an iOS app... if so, then I'm not going to be able to because right now I don't have my iPod.

Aaaaaand on a more off-topic note...

Sending an image by text can result in some hefty charges... and it's not even SMS, it's another service called MMS. It also may not even be supported by some networks and carriers.

Its an android app too. I have it and I have a droid.

Regarding my previous post, I have now used it.

It is awful.

I don't really get this, is it some kind of chat where the image is displayed for 10sec then disappear or is it site based so the image is stored in a db of some sort and displayed on a web page.

Surely they can just save the picture, I don't get this, but I don't get jokes :/

I think it's pretty awesome since it's a really fast way to send pictures to your friends. Plus, if it's a really goofy picture, you know it's going to be gone after a few seconds

One of my friend's has it. Seems okay but not something I would use daily. More for just a few laughs with friends.

Not if you use it right. With the new update you can set privacy settings so only people you allow can send you images.

It's sent just like any other data transmitted or received by the apps on your smartphone. Hopefully your carrier supports apps because if it didn't, well, your smartphone would be pretty useless.

I'm pretty sure that is does use data, but the message is usually sent at an... Unusual (as opposed to standard) rate. I have a smartphone... Just a somewhat old (Nokia N96) smartphone running Symbian, and I never ever ever download (or use, for that matter) apps. All I usually do is send/receive texts and calls :P Mobile data is too mainstream.

There are several people I know who use it. Honestly, when I first heard about it, I thought everyone was just going to use it as another way to send and receive dirty pictures. But people actually seem to use it just to be silly. It's definitely not for me though...

I'm pretty sure that is does use data

I'd like to point out that it can be used through wi-fi as well. My school has Ipads and Ipods and students always download this app and use it through the wi-fi.

Either way, what you said about MMS is irrelevant because Snapchat is a smartphone app for iOS and Android and functions as such. I don't understand what you said about unusual rates.

The only problem I have with it is how little of a space you have to type letters in
