Just a couple of links about the hoax prank call that resulted in the suicide of the nurse.

Thats making big news here, they should be ashamed of themselves. But my question (If it's not too off topic) Should they be punished?

EDIT: 666th post.

Should they be punished?

No. They didn't know something like that would happen. It's really not their fault that a harmless phone call turned into something like that.

But they did impersonate the queen and lie to obtain confidential information. Surely that's just as wrong as somebody commiting identity theft.

They didnt purposely try to obtain information, that wasnt the point of it. Yes they did but still. There wasnt any complaints from anyone in the royal family about it.

Exactly, this was a gross invasion of privacy and it's hard to judge it as a harmless prank when it has cost one person their life and destroyed a family.

They weren't to know that it would cause a suicide, but it could easily of cost the nursing staff their jobs, their careers even and they didn't give a thought about ruining other peoples' lives in that way. It was reckless and irresponsible. I think they, and their radio station, deserve some penalty for sure.

didn't know it was ruled a suicide yet.

radio guys were trying to be funny, not sure they were. Why they were able to get a call through to the nurse should be looked into, that's an issue. Why the impersonations were believed is kinda scary too.

The privacy issue is on the nursing staff or hospital, not the radio guys. It's not their job to protect someone's privacy, but it the hospitals job.

Those two are idiots. They could've and have cause so much damage. The nurse could've lost her job, they impersonated royalty, private and confidential information was given out, the hospital could've have seriously and probably has, lost business with people knowing a mere radio show could easily call there and leak out info.
It's tragic that she killed herself, she must've been so scared, worried sick even. All from a little "fun", fun for whom though? Exactly just them.

Punishment is needed. Some people don't mean to hit other people with their cars and kill them, but they still get a slap on the wrist. Some people don't mean to fall asleep behind the wheel, but they still get punished.
It was an accident, but it could have easily been avoided. More so than a car accident, had they not decided to prank. Let them learn to think things through before they leap off the cliff next time.

They finally released that she hanged herself and left 3 notes behind.

Ok well im gonna get a lot of hate mail from this but... I heard this call live on the radio. the presenters did the nothing wrong. everyone needs to look at this logically- would the queen actually call up the hospital? and if she did, wouldn't you put the queen through to your manager? the accents were so unbelievably bad how could she think it was the queen. the nurse could've accepted the fact that she messed up (like we all do) and moved but she had ruined so many lives. take the poor presenters for example. there devastated and they'll never get a job in radio again and all they do is press the buttons, it was the hirachy of the radio station that gave the OK to go to air. though this is just my opinion and yes it is very sad and i do feel sorry for her family but i feel more sorry for the presenters.

I heard about this. I don't think the radio presenters should be punished; they're already infamous and will be made pariahs. RIP to the nurse. This is such a tragic outcome to what could have just been a stupid prank.

The DJ's donate about £320,000 to a charity set up by the nurses family, is that enough?

Except this isn't the only time that Today has fucked up like this. Just look at this list here, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Sandilands#Controversy) and that's not just it. I personally think that 2DAY should lose it's license.

Except this isn't the only time that Kyle Sandilands has done, along with other people on 2DAY. Just look at this list here, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Sandilands#Controversy) and that's not just it. I personally think that 2DAY should lose it's license.

Kyle Sandilance wasn't even envolved in the call. The two host were Mel Grigg and Michael Christain

Kyle Sandilands - Not in the call that was placed, but he was definitely involved.

I don't think that the DJ's were at fault at all. Radio stations always make prank calls to provide a little cheap entertainment. Their accents were so ridiculously bad and over-exaggerated that it's obvious that they were fully expecting the hospital to hang up on them without question. It really was nothing more than a harmless joke that went wrong.

Kyle's show is on in the morning and the hot 30 started at 7:30pm. He would'nt even be at the radio station when the call was placed

He doesn't work solely at 2DAY, yet on most stations on the Today network. I can tell you this; He would've been involved. However, it's not even just him, it's 2DAY in general.
