So I'm getting the iPad mini in 2 days but I'm kinda worried about a few things. So I went to the site, and it said that there were 165 PPI with the Mini, but there were 146 PPI for the iPad 2. Is that a big difference (the PPI weren't exact, but they were around those numbers)? Can you see the screen good when it's 2 ft away? With the new iPad with Retina Display are the graphics extremely amazing or just ehh? Would I notice a difference in the graphics switching from iPad 2 to the iPad with Retina Display? I'm just really conflicted of what I should get. Everyone in my school has the iPad with Retina Display, so that's making me want the iPad Mini, just so I can be the unique one in the whole situation, so I'm not following the crowd per say.
Which would you get?
Also, I remember Apple coming out with the iPad Third Generation, but now it seems like it has disappeared. What happened to the Third Gen. iPad? Was it replaced with the Retina display ipad?

If you're worried about a product, you don't buy it. Do your research first. I spent two months speculating phones until I settled for one.
The 3rd Generation iPad was known as the "New iPad" (if you bothered to go to Wikipedia). After I did some searching myself, Apple has discontinued the 3rd Generation iPad, most probably as such an miniscule upgrade would mean no point to having two almost identical devices.
"Retina" is just a fancy word used by Apple to pull people that do not seem to have much technology knowledge. 20 PPI is absolutely tiny, you most likely will not see a difference.
"seeing the screen good" is rather vague. It depends on your own eyesight, which to most people, you should be able to see a screen from any range between 1-3 feet, otherwise it would not fulfill it's job as a tablet.
BOTH the third and fourth have retina displays (which it says very clearly on wikipedia, you could have saved yourself a lot of time).

I don't even know what that means. All "retina" means is that there are enough pixels squashed in that it is not visible to the human eye from 10cm. For iOS, the effect on the picture quality is tiny as from about 2 feet, it would be hard to see pixels on an iPad 2 as well.

Don't get a iPad because everyone else has one. It's still "following the crowd". If I were you I'd smartly invest in a Google Nexus 7. They're about a 3rd of the price.

Oh no, I want an iPad, thats the only tablet I've truly ever liked. I was just saying I wouldn't be apart of the crowd by getting an iPad with Retina Display. But now I'm strongly considering the Retina display one. I'll get white instead of black to match my headphones (and cause the school only hands out black).

If the school is giving them out for free then I'd consider it idiotic to buy one.

Answering to your question. You will not see the difference. Only with some optics, like magnifying glass.

First, I've completely lost track of how many iPads have been released. It would be nice to have them called iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 etc. but Apple doesn't do it like that.
I wouldn't buy an iPad Mini, especially if it's just to be "unique". It's smaller so you get less screen space. Why would you want less screen space? There's a reason no one else in your school has one.
You may or may not notice the difference in graphics from the iPad 2 to the iPad with retina display. I have an iPod Touch and whenever I see someone's iPhone 4S I can see the screen is obviously much more clearer. I don't know if that'll be the same with iPads. Either way, I hope you can see the screen from 2 feet away. If not you're probably blind. But that's OK, iOS comes with a screen reader called VoiceOver.
