I'm not really sure if this belongs here or not, but I'm wondering if I have dyslexia. I've never been diagnosed with dyslexia, and as far as I remember I never had much issue reading either. But, in the last few years, my reading has gotten weird. Sometimes words will move spots, and I have to read the same thing two to three times before I realize the mistake I made in reading it. Sometimes, words from the passage below will even appear in the passage above. Like, for example, my friend and I had to do this lab and had to follow it step by step. I ended up accidentally reading a few lines of the paragraph before, and we had to start the lab again which caused us to get in some trouble and points taken off. I normally wouldn't worry about that, but I've been noticing that this type of stuff has been happening frequently lately. Also, dyslexia runs in my family. Is it possible that dyslexia shows up more as we grow older? Or that I even have it?

It’s possible.

It’s hard to be diagnosed with Dyslexia and quite often much of the population aren't even aware that they have it. Quite often it is seen in more of the later years of life. For example I was told they believed me to be dyslexic when I was between 12 & 13 years old.

You do have a classic sign as the first symptoms (if you could call it that) is reading difficulty with words floating off the page and or, reading lines below and getting confused when reading something as you read half of one line and then you replace the second half of the line with a line below the line you were originally reading and then you have to go back and read it more carefully a few times.

I can't think of another reason of what it could be other than just a minor reading problem as I am not 100% sure of the human body or what else it could be. However you do have a classic signs. And this could be the only part of it you could have. I mean I have some minor reading and writing issues but quite often people say they can't tell.

The only people I'd suggest talking to would be your parents and then possibly a support for learning teacher as they can do basic tests and they can tell.

Overall I wouldn't be worried though. You sound like you can do everything fine. I found myself once told I had a 'touch' of dyslexia to basically continue as normal because it was very mild and didn't affect learning.

I hope your find out what your answer. Feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions or reply :)

I would talk to your parents and a doctor. It is hard to diagnose for sure. I have heard though this isn't 100% it can show up over time i.e. at 16 but not 6. I know a classmate of mine wasn't found out until middle school.

yeah, my brother has dyslexia and he finds it difficult to follow the lines and the letters seem to float off the page. better to get it checked out
if it turns out you are dyslexic, don't worry, it's not a massive life changing condition. My brother copes fine, he just needs to use a laptop to do writing and stuff and he finds it a bit harder to read. It could also be useful to go to an opticians because it could be a problem with your eyes...
Hope it gets better :)

I myself am Dyslexic, it really isn't easy to find out wether you're Dyslexic or not. I was proven to have dyslexic when I was around six, my parents were speaking to a few Dyslexic Speciliasts if that's what you would call them. As well as reading alot about it. The reading problems you explained are pretty much what I have, sometimes when I'm reading a book, I'll be trying to get to another line just to find I'll be reading it over & over. I eventually have to use my finger to find where I'm at, then my brain would get lost again....

maybe you just aren't as focused try slowing down for a couple of times. If it continues it might be possible and you should talk to a doctor to see his opinion.
