I have scars from cutting pretty much everywhere you could see(Ankles, Forearms, Shoulder, Abdomen). I'm really afraid because I have gym class next semester and then summer next year. I don't know what to use to cover when in gym because we have to wear shorts and we have a swimming unit, so pretty much everything can be seen.

Any ideas of what to use to cover them?

Sorry that im asking way earlier than that class and summer even starts

And i am still living as a guy because of my dad so...

Luckily I've only got bad ones on my thighs so during my swimming unit (which is now in the freezing cold) I wear leggings and get changed really carefully by the wall. I'd suggest wearing a t-shirt/long-sleeved top during swimming, if your school is like mine then most of the girls will be so that shouldn't be much of a problem?

I don't know how cold it is where you live but you could wear a base layer under your clothes? I feel the cold especially well because of my anemia and stuff but just wear your shorts/t-shirt and wear a tight long sleeved top underneath. I really don't think there's much else you can do so I'd really push with being able to wear that. Ankles, could you just wear knee length socks or something? You'll look like a bit stupid most probably but I always think to myself "What's better, looking stupid for a couple of hours a week or everyone seeing my scars?" You just have to remember the priorities. I hope that somewhat helped.

If you have old but visible scars you can make them less visible by using lemon juice...it will take some time but it works.

Sorry to delve in on someone else question, but I was wondering is there is a way to cover up fresh cuts on your fore arm like in the middle between your elbow and your wrist coz I have a pool party on Saturday but I hve no idea how to hide them coz my makeup will probably come off a little bit and the cuts will probably be clearly visible, and my boyfriend is gonn b there and he has no idea that I cut so thats gonna b really awkward. Any suggestions on the best ways to cover them up?

After I made the cuts I cleaned them with water nd this morning I put tea tree oil on them and savlon (antibacterial cream) but I don't no how to make them dissapear within the next few days!

Unfortunately i dont tkink it's possible to cover them competely...if they are not deep than they will be less visible. Good luck with covering them up

foundation always works for old scars but wont cover them up in the pool. bio oil can fade scars really well as well as vitamin E cream.. so if u have time i would give these a go, the cream takes longer to work then the bio oil..

if u dont mind me asking what do u mean by "living like a guy"??

What do you mean living as a guy?

She means that she is a trans* girl, who is mentally and emotionally female but was born with male "parts." Her father will not allow her to live as a non-male, so she is "living as a guy."

I'd recommend a UV protection shirt for the upper body, one that covers all the way to your wrists. As for the ankles, socks will work out of the pool (hopefully) and in the pool I honestly doubt anyone will see but waterproof foundation can work wonders. Good luck, Tori

Oh i understand, sorry for sounding insensitive. I cannot completely relate but i have been in similar circumstances. Some parents can be really ignorant and just don't understand. I just started cutting harder recently aswell, and i know things can get tough but hang in there, we all care for you :)

I don't think its weird that you are asking so far in advance. I'm paranoid about people seeing my scars so i worry about stuff like this too.

The scars you have now might look totally different in a couple of months time, so it might not be as bad as you think. Just don't add any new ones there if you can help it.

I second the idea of base layers. Or long sleeved compression tops. They're supposed to keep your muscles warm and improve your performance, so you can just pretend you are all sporty and care about that kind of stuff. Under Armour is one of the biggest brands. Their Heat Gear tops are supposed to keep you cool in hot weather and the Cold Gear ones keep you warm. Just get a neutral coloured one like white or gray and then wear a t.shirt over it. Here in the UK they're about £25. Nike have a lot of compression tops too and Helly Hansen and 2XU (but they're very pricey). You can get leggings/tights like runners/cyclists wear but i think that's just going to be a bit too weird for PE. Maybe just as long shorts as you can get away with - like basketball shorts or boxing shorts. Then sports socks. You can pull them up pretty high so there's only going to be a small gap thats not covered. For swimming... i think you need to invent an infectious skin disease or something so you can't go in the pool.
