i've been in a similar situation before but i just managed to ask when i was at his house. obviously don't just randomly ask him haha :D instead try i change the conversation slightly, try and figure out if he wants to. if he says no but you're good friends, he should be able to understand or u can just ignore like nothing happened... laugh it off :)

If yours is smaller then who cares? It won't be a big deal and it won't ruin your friendship. I am still friends with pretty much everybody I experimented with - most of them are straight.

Just be upfront and ask him, if he says no then respect his decision. If he says yes then by all means go for it.
