View Full Version : How can I meet people?

I'm aware that there's a guide on how to make friends on here already, but I'm looking for some more general advice. I hope that's okay.

I'm quite a shy and reserved person, and I don't have a lot of friends. I feel quite lonely, and I want to change that. I want to meet people and make real friends, but the thing is, I don't know where to start.

I'm homeschooled, so meeting people at school isn't really an option. And I'm not really the kind of person to just walk up to random people and strike up a conversation. I feel kind of stupid posting this, but does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

what are you interested in? like a sport, activity, so on. join a team or club and make friends there.

(this is not 100% true) I am into mountain biking. and lets say i am home schooled. i go to my local downhill/mountain bike park, ride with people who share my passion and make friends that way.

Join a club sport. Like rugby. Even if you can't play it you will learn. Become friends with the people in the club, and then then soon, but not immediately you will become friends with their friends and so on.

Sport isn't much of an interest of mine, but maybe I could find something that I'm interested in. Thank you.

I have a couple of old friends that I don't talk with much anymore. Do you think it'd be worth asking them to hang out or something?

i just used a sport as an example. what DO you enjoy? find a club or group of people near you where you can meet together to do it. Like if it is a certain video game, most LAN/internet cafes have rooms for group events, well atleast the ones near me do.

your old friends can be worth a shot. give it a try.

As you say in your response - you are not interested in sport but may take a look - ok yes but maybe you could form an interest and see it as a way of meeting people -

You could also see if there are any local projects that bring people together

Maybe a club or volunteer group whatever - even if you are nor primarily interested in the end deal of the club or activity - it works for you if you meet people -

Im not interested much in rugby and have lots to do anyways but I join the school team for training - helps them and I meet a few new guys out of school.

Hope something comes along for you -

I'm into theatre. There aren't all that many theatre options around, though. I think I'm going to look into what kinds of social activities go on in my area and see if anything catches my eye. :)

That's very true. Sometimes it can be more about socialising than the activity. Thank you very much, this has been really helpful. :D

if you are into theater, search for an improve group. or you could always be part in activities where you volunteer at soup kitchen, other places like that. and trust me, soup kitchen are great places to start to meet new people.
