View Full Version : Rebellious teenager? Who ya gonna call? The Catholic possession helpline!

For many concerned Catholic parents the obvious thing to do with a rebellious teenager is apparently to accuse them of demonic possession and get the Church to deal.

There has been so much demand for help with "demonic possession" recently that the Church has had to set up a helpline in Milan to deal with demand.

The Church's chief exorcist in Milan, Monsignor Angelo Mascheroni, reminds parents:

“Usually the parents call [because they are] concerned about a child who won’t go to school or who’s taking drugs or rebelling. In reality it’s not a demon, but when they’re 18 years old young people don’t want to be told what to do.”

Some of his colleagues are a little more enthusiastic about demons (or are fans of John Constantine). The Vatican's chief exorcist claims to have dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession. But then he is also quoted as saying:

“[yoga is] satanic; it leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter”.

Nothing says evil like reading about a teenage boy becoming a hero in a magical world.

It scares me sometimes how people are so willing to believe this kind of thing.

Ugh I'm not even surprised anymore. Seriously Harry Potter is "satanic"?? I sorta understand why it would be to those religious people (even though it's utterly ridiculous)...but YOGA? What's satanic about YOGA?

O god dont read that harry potter book it will give you demons. Though that one priest who said teens dont like to be told what to do has the most brains and common sence than any of the other priest.

I agree with Jess.

I mean, do these people sit in room and believe this utter crap. I am all for respecting other peoples religions but, I mean.....this is a little too much.

I'm honestly not sure whether to laugh or cry, so I'm just sitting here with tears in my eyes, stifling giggles.

Downward dog position allows demons easy entry to the body, duh.

No, I'm pretty sure it's that the cobra pose draws too much attention to the sweater meat. It inspires sinful thoughts in young boys...

I can't even...No I really can't. This is the weirdest thing I've read about Catholic parents yet.
