I calculated what my GPA might be at the end of the fall term...using http://www.back2college.com/gpa.htm
If I get a B- in Psyc (currently at a C, hoping to improve), and A's in Calculus and Intro to Information, Systems & Society (so two A's), but an ugly F in W&L (no hope of improving), I get a total of 2.78 GPA which according to this (http://gpacalculator.net/gpa-scale/2-8-gpa/) website, it's a B (83%)...
Would you say that's not too bad of a GPA? :/ Or is the second website inaccurate and 2.78 is really bad?

I would say that in college 2.8 is probably a little above average GPA, but not much. Between 3.0 and 4.0 I think would be really good, but 2.8 isn't too far from that. Overall, a B isn't bad, but it's not great either. And I only say that because it's a very low B. It's above average though, so I wouldn't worry too much, unless you have to take Women and Lit again next semester and have the same result :/

No I'm definitely not taking Women & Lit again...shouldn't have taken that class in the first place. I'm going to have to check with my mom to see what she thinks. As long as I'm not failing...sigh

I'm probably gonna end up with a 3.3-3.4ish, I'm usually a 4.0 student, so this is a bit out of character for me, but my mom tells me everyday that this is normal. From this, I think you're fine, college is a huge change, wayyyy harder lol.

While it's not the best GPA ever, it certainly isn't the worst, especially for your 1st semester in college. Ideally, you want to get at least a 3.0. However, since you have A's in 3 of your 5 classes, I'd say you are doing pretty well.

actually it's only two A's :P but thanks...I don't think I have a chance of getting to 3.0 though :/ maybe next semester.

I have a 3,4 GPA. Personally, I stopped caring about it, I just take classes I like then do my best.
What field are you studying in? Whether your GPA is good or not depends a lot on what kinda major you're getting. In law, I'm ,3 away from being on the honor roll, but in classics, 3,4 actually is quite low because the classes are easier.

I'm currently in the School of Arts & Sciences. I'm not sure what I want to major in but it might be information science....my mom wants me to do business but I'm not sure if I like that field.

Depends what you want to do. If, like me, you plan to go to a top-five law school after college, a 2.8 won't cut it. For many other purposes, though, just try to stay over a 3.

I'm most likely going to information science....or maybe even something computer/programming related....

I finished with a 3.77, but yours isn't bad at all! It only a little below a B average.

Actually I did pretty bad, worse than what I assumed in my first post. a stinking 2.4. really bad. :/ no A's. I'm hoping THIS semester I do better. :/

I got screwed over in my first semester (lots of really rough things went on...it was a mess) and mine's only about 2.88 as well. I've always been a 4.00 student, but everyone is acting like where I am right now isn't too bad.
That being said, I'm bringing it up this semester, and you should remember that even if you have a rough semester, you can always bring it up next semester since your GPA is cumulative.

Yes that's true. If I do much better this semester, my cumulative GPA won't be too bad.

Big question to keep in mind. Is Grad School something you want to go to? If so, then you can worry about your GPA.
If you're like me and are just trying to get a degree, GPA means shit. I just need to pass and get a high enough GPA (2.0) to keep my scholarships.
I got a 2.0 my first semester lol.

I don't think I have any plans to go to grad school.

My GPA was 4.2 weighted, or 4.0 unweighted. Straight A's. This is high school, however.

In high school it's easy to get straight A's if you're smart. The only time I got straight A's was in 7th grade. All other times I always had one or two B's.

My HS GPA now is 1.7
I'm so far behind. I might as well drop school and go work at a fucking McDonald's or something. :(
What else can one do without a HS graduation?

If you're lucky, then you could make it up to at least a manager in some type of low-skilled job. And that's if you're lucky - luck shouldn't be relied on in the job world. You'd be better off at least graduating from high school or possibly get a GED from somewhere else (I think you can either do it by going to a local community college or online classes).
