I've cut myself for three years. And some were deeper than others. But I think they've all been shallow. I just cut.. and one of the cuts seems really deep to me. It separates from itself and it's probably about a quarter of an inch deep. It kind of scared me. How deep is a cut before you need medical attention?

ummmm... well to be graphically honest
when your on the floor bleeding everywhere, cant see or hear straight and you feel like your gonna pass out... call 911.. youve probably lost alot of blood and may need a blood transfusion

If it won't stop bleeding, you may need medical attention. I've had some deep cuts, but they always stopped bleeding after 5 or 10 minutes. If it's a continuous stream of blood, that's cause for concern.

How deep is too deep? Well, since you mean before you need medical attention (and not, "cutting period is too deep"), then I'll answer accordingly. If you can see what looks like little white or yellow orbs, then it's too deep and needs stitches--those orbs are fat and seeing them mean that you've cut deeper than the first few layers of skin. Also, you say it separates from itself. If the cut cannot be held together by a bandage, or even needs something like a butterfly strip to hold it together, then it's very likely that it may need stitches and medical attention. We're all here for you hun, and we'll always be here to support you!

Man went here and realised I should have got medical attention back in the day. Freaky to remember.

If it's a quarter of an inch deep, as you say, get stitches. Seriously, that's pretty deep.

You bleed over 5 minutes... Or well you like above it, its really deep and is needed stitches.
