What... that's not true at all. I was put under anesthesia when I was ten for surgery. Four times. You'll be absolutely fine. It doesn't even really occur to you that you're falling asleep.

I wouldn't be able to speak about in Iran, but in the United States, anesthesia is made for both adults and those under the age of 18. And, in fact, most anesthetics that work on adults also work on those under 18, just in smaller doses typically. The doctors are trained in administering the anesthetic, and I don't think that the surgery sounds very major either. I know it's a scary thing, but I wouldn't worry about waking up during the surgery at all--I think that the doctors will take good care of you and you should be able to put your mind at ease. You shouldn't remember a thing from the surgery. I hope that everything turns out well for you, and that the surgery goes well! :)

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

It depends on the type of surgery. For those four surgeries, they were all to correct a broken leg (one to set it and put on a cast, a second to redo the cast, a third to set up an external fixator, and a fourth to remove the fixator). I was on pain medication, so no, I don't recall it hurting when I woke up. When I was put under anesthesia for oral surgery (I was younger at the time, but I don't remember exactly how old I was), I woke feeling unpleasant, but it wasn't painful. You should be alright, but you might be disoriented upon waking up. I was, anyway.

Good luck, and I hope everything goes well!

They are going to give you a "general anesthetic"? General means that your entire body is put under.

As opposed to "local anesthetic"....where just the area of the surgery is affected.

I guess it would depend on a lot of factors...but something like an ingrown hair might only require local numbing?

I injured my hand last year.....and got local anesthetic for that. It was amazing to see the surgeon working away and I wasn't feeling anything :)

Silly me though...I had to turn away....didn't want to look....

That is very untrue.Anasthaesia can only be fatal if overdosed or if administered in a large dose to a very young child. And even so, it is very rare that children die from that. I had a couple hours of surgery when i was 10, and they gavew me an anasthetic. If you have any other questions, pm me.

I was put under when I was 4 days old and it was a much bigger operation than what you're having. You'll be fine!!
