Having a large number of Facebook 'friends' may boost a person's ego, but it can also make them more stressed, research suggests.
This is because 'friending' people who aren't that close, such as professional acquaintances, leads to increased worry about posting inappropriate comments and pictures.
A study by Scots academics found that the wider and more diverse a person's 'friends' on the social networking site are, the more stress the site will create.
The research, led by Ben Marder, from Edinburgh University’s business school, found the more friend groups a person has, there is a greater potential to cause offence.

Makes sense to me. While I don't go on friending sprees, and have 1000 Facebook friends, I do have some relatives that I either feel I have to censor for, or just block the post from to avoid any awkwardness or whatever conflict. :P I've never really understood why people have so many friends on Facebook, partly for this reason. Makes me glad my friendbase is made up of people I know.

Yeah, that's why you shouldn't friend everybody you see on facebook :P
I've seen people have 10,000+ friends on facebook, nobody knows that many fucking people!
Personally, I think facebook is stupid, I can't really see how people can get as obsessed as they are with it.

That is the reason for me having >30 Facebook friends, rapidly changing so give or take. I don't really see the point in having a social network where you never actually connect to the people you're on it with.

What a load of rubbish.
I majorly disagree with this article. Why? Because if you have some sense of how to even use Facebook, you would be aware of Friend Lists. And what are friend lists? They're lists that you add people to to change privacy settings and how you interact with them. People that are close to me or just general friends that I have regular communication with are on my "Close Friends" list, they can see all my statuses and a lot of photos. Many of the other people are in the normal list, where just some information is shown, not all. I don't use this list, but Facebook also supplies you with a "Restricted" list. You add people such as your boss or parents to this list, it only allows you to communicate to the other person through chat, and that's it. There are loads of workarounds out there now. Better still don't accept them if you don't even like them.

I honestly don't give a fuck what I post. I don't censor myself at all. If you know me well, you'll know that I have a dark sense of humor and know what to expect from me. Anyone who feels offended can delete me off their friends list. And quite frankly, if it comes to that, you don't know me very well because a lot of people who actually know me, know that I am not actually a cunt.
