There's no easy way to gain rep pts. You just need to make good, helpful posts and maybe you'll be lucky to get rep from someone. There's no guarantee though. And remember, rep is not a big deal.

Usually the people that have negative rep make poor posts or deliberately cause arguments.

You can view the rep people give you by going to the "User CP" in the top right corner. If you ever feel you receive unfair negative rep, you can PM Scarface or ImCoolBeans to have it removed. But most of the time neg rep isn't given with malicious intent.

Some people will rep you back if you rep them, regardless of your post quality. Others will rep to try and instigate a friendship or support. A lot of people here do it, unfortunately. Thats why some people have huge rep power, but their posts are no better than the next person. Its happening more and more now, with noticeable effects, as it used to be rare that someone had more than 200 rep. Now people get that in a heartbeat.
