So how many of you use TPB regularly? Any objections to it?

I had no idea what this was until I looked it up. So I obviously haven't used it.

It's blocked on the grounds of copyright infringements in the UK, and my Internet connection is too slow to use a proxy really, so no.

Yeah I ne'er use it and never will, I don't trust torrents from any site cause what if there's a virus hidden in the file that your antivirus program doesn't pick up, and it's real easy to be detected while using it

I've been using it the past few months for most of my downloads, but they're mainstream things so lots of people give reviews, I wouldn't download something if it has no comments or low amount of seeders/leaches. You just need to watch out for virus's, and fakes, and the Teen Spirit by Nirvana lyrics being edited to Never Gonna Give You Up lyrics. :P

Personally, i never use it(i support genuine stuff). But here where I live you can get illegal copies of anything for a dollar on the streets.

The Pirate Bay is my one stop shop for any music, films, computer programs and games and TV series. So obviously, I use it nearly every day. I don't have any objections to it at all.

I don't use it. I actually only illegally download music if I intend on buying it anyway, and I delete in once I've bought it. Sometimes I'm just too short of money and desperate to hear something.

Well the virus isn't from piratebay itself, its packaged in the download, and my sisters boyfriend has gotten an official letter from the government telling him that he needs to stop torrenting things from the pirate bay

if the download would incloud a virus you can virus check it before you open it, and it has NEVER happened to me. Also the file would be full of comments that it has a virus so no one would download

+1

As for the virus(es), I've been without an AV for over a year, and I've got just one virus, and that was because of my mistake/not from torrents. So, yeah, if you know from who to download, check comments first, etc, I'd say it's pretty safe to use.

Same here, I use it often and never have gotten viruses, probably because linux only has 48 known viruses, well last time I checked anyway.
 I need to check this stuff more often.

I don't really support piracy for computer software, mainly because I have no need for it. Almost all the software I use is free software(in the GNU sense), anyways.
For music and other media, I see how it saves money, but I listen to free internet radio and podcasts, so I have no need for that. And I rarely watch TV; if I do, I look for it on Netflix.

However, piracy does exist to remind companies that there is competition(this is what you need in a capitalist society, or everything becomes a monopoly. But I digress: if you want more of my delightful socio-communist beliefs, feel free to contact me). This keeps the prices somewhat low, and they [the companies] need to carefully evaluate their prices, or people will just say "fuck it I'm not paying $100 for that movie, I'll just torrent it".
It's all how you look at it, I guess.

i use it regularly. now a days it is how i get most of my games as i can't afford most new games. i will only buy games that i really want or have collected, like the AC series. also use it for tv shows to catch up or movies. I know that i could get pirate things were i live, but it is far away.
i think pirating and torrents can help most companies, as with torrents people can see your porducts, and if they like it, they can support it. i have a friend who has a band in finland. to get people to know his music he placed it all in onto a bit torrent site and let people listen to it for free. with games it can help people learn of indie companies so that their games can become more widespread.

but i support piracy 100%. not because i am a rebel or anything like Jeremy Hammond(was part of Anonymous before he got arrested. a large tech rebel and anarchist) but because torrents and piracy help get products to people who can't afford to pay to go to movies of buy $60-100 media products.

So I used to live in England, but it worked when I was there. Moved to Switzerland, where the laws say I can download but not upload copyrighted stuff. And the best reason why they don't even care, because of Switzerland's neutrality, no-one even the FBI have to power here. :D

it is still hanging around. and the creator's of TPB tried buying an independent oil rig as their "office" because then no one would have jurisdiction there. not even the FBI

Not anymore, the pirate party put up their own proxy around it, so you can just go on the new link and get on it

But whenever I download a game, movie, tv series, piece of software.... I use TPB. Unless it's a game that has online that I want to play, then I'll buy it on steam or get it for my Xbox.

yea i know about that. that is the new plan. the old one, the plan to buy the mirconation Sealand(which is just an oil rig) but Sealand did not want to be recognized to be working with TPB, so they declined their offer to buy it. then they made this new plan on low orbiting drones.

I only download music that is hard to come by on CD.

I never download movies because it's my own job (Blockbuster) that will go down the shitter eventually due to illegal downloads.

I backed off a bit on the torrents after I got my new gaming computer, just 'cause I'm paranoid. Still always used the "safer" torrents (VIP/trusted users, high downloads). But I used to use it all the time. I have a couple times since too. I finally found a reason to reinstall photoshop, so yeah.

My policy is really just download a torrent first, and then I buy the physical object if I'm satisfied with the content. I'm not paying money for shit I may not like, unless it's inevitable. But trust me, if I discover the artist/game developer is great, then I'll throw my money at them.

Even if it's late. I don't own Portal and Portal 2 yet... I know, I know. But I think they've already got their money's worth from me in merch. I'm still going to buy the games... at some point. I really want to play the second one again since I only did so once. I played Portal at least ten times.

Comcast has gotten on by back before, but I was stupid enough to accidentally let a Microsoft game seed overnight. Only time they've bitched at me, of course.

Alternatively, enable IIS in your Control Panel(available in most Windows versions since Windows 98). It's free.

I hardly use it for two reasons.
1) I'm lazy and just find something I can stream.
2) At college, they monitor internet usage. If you exceed a certain amount, they'll look into what you are doing.
