To my knowledge, you can't burn fat in a singular area of the body. When you burn fat, it burns from the whole body, even if you only notice your stomach or your thighs getting slimmer. The best way to burn fact is through cardio excercises like running, cycling, swimming, aerobics.

Excercises like crunches and sit-ups are designed to build muscle, so they won't work to burn fat. It's a nice idea to do crunches and sit-ups in addition to cardio to tone your stomach muscles a bit, though.

You can't target a specific area of fat really.
The best way is Cardio aka running

You burn more fat by working the larger muscles then you will with direct ab work but still I sugest doing some abwork.

You can't target specific fat. The only way to get rid of abdominal fat is to reduce your total body fat. You can do this by doing cardio, such as running or cycling. Strength training will also help, since building muscle increases your basal metabolic rate, but you will also need to do cardio.

Cardio. Such as running or biking. Sit ups and crunches are a good way to add muscle. They also reduce stomach fat. Your midsection will probably get a little bigger and/or bulgier before it slims down.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned diet so far. Dirt is key to burning fat. 60% of fat burn comes directly from your diet. Then to burm fat like crazy I would go look up HIIT. That's what I did to get my abs haha

Exactly what I was thinking. To lose fat you have to balance eating less calories than you burn, and cardio. I don't have muscle to spare, so long distance running wasn't an option for me. But HIIT burns fat, and builds muscle like no other cardio I've seen. I wanted to let you know, doing ab exercises builds your abs underneath the fat layer, so you're strengthening your abs, but not losing the fat.

To sum up...

Healthy Eating Balance
Regular Exercise

Swimming is a very good way to loose weight so doing regular laps is a good idea and can help burn the extra fat.

Burning belly fat is not an easy task, it will take more times like 2 or 3 months. Cycling, running and stomach crunches are the best methods to burn belly fat.

One thing I'd like to point out since a lot of people are recommending it, doing sit ups, crunches and other abdominal exercises, while good, aren't going to burn the fat layer off. If you're only doing crunches and sit-ups every night, even if you're doing 200, you're not going to lose that layer of fat, you're just toning your abs underneath, you must do cardio to lower your fat percentage.

An hour of swimming everyday is the best IMO.

Take a look at your diet habbits, nothing more important, and is what has helped me immensely in this same area.

I am a fully qualified personal trainer, and my educated advice would be stick to core based exercises, as they will activate your stomach muscles and help you burn some fat. Running and cycling are always great methods as i am sure you are aware.

Think of things such as ab crunches, something great you can do without equipment, and in the comfort of your own home.

Think of things such as ab crunches, something great you can do without equipment, and in the comfort of your own home.Remember that doing crunches won't help you burn any more bellyfat, infact doing crunches will grow your abdominal muscles wich are located under the fat layer, and may actually cause your belly to look even bigger. The reason why crunches don't help you burn fat from your belly, is that you cant target a bodypart to lose fat from. All fat you lose, will burn equally from all around your body.

Doing cardio excercises, and living with a healthy diet will get you there. Keep a log of what you eat, and count the amount of calories your meals contain. Then find out the amount calories you burn during your normal day. The main point in losing bellyfat is to keep the amount of calories burned, higher than calories taken in.

Another thing in losing bellyfat, is turning it into muscle. By getting a real workout plan, bodybuilding like, will help you turn that fat into muscle. You can find out programs like this, by going to your local gym and maybe buying a workout plan, or by joining a bodybuilding forum.

Remember, there is no shortcuts, only hard work. Good luck!

Half the battle, to burning fat is through being able to activate your muscles. An exercise such as ab crunches, may not necessarily burn fat, but will help activate those stomach muscles that this individual is trying to target and will help greatly in losing some fat from this area. By running, swimming cycling or doing exercises of this nature, along with a solid diet, they will achieve the results they are after. I can say that as a trained expert, after being taught by professionals in this area.

Thank you for your input mate, great that you are passionate about it.

You can only burn fat equally from allaround your body, it's just a fact. You can't target an area to burn fat from.

I'm sure you don't mean it literally, but to be clear for the benefit of anyone who reads it that way, fat does not 'turn into' muscle. You can reduce stored fat and increase muscle mass, but those are simply complementary outcomes and are not causatively linked.

Everything you told is true, except this "is trying to target and will help greatly in losing some fat from this area." You can only burn fat equally from allaround your body, it's just a fact. You can't target an area to burn fat from.
I can see how you read it that way and I agree with your point, but since several people have already made that exact point I think the phrasing was meant to imply that including core work in an overall program is giving you a double benefit, since BlokeMan does mention running etc as part of that advice.

Personally I am a strong believer that if you do any exercise you should incorporate core work, since any time you exert yourself you rely on your core muscles to counteract that force, and a strong core also protects your spine from injury.

Doing core work will elevate the heart rate, stimulate the metabolism and burn fat, even if not at as high a rate as running or cross-training. What I do is a cardio session, do my core work then do another cardio session. That way my heart rate doesn't drop out of fat burning, I get a bit of a rest, with the upshot that not only have you:
1) extended your overall fat-burning duration but
2) potentially you can attempt a longer total cardio workout as a result of your rest,
3) with the added benefit that you've built up some core muscles to tighten up that area and give you something to show off.
