I haven't cut in nine months, but three days ago I did. I have about 30 cuts on my right thigh and we are swimming in my gym class right now. I have shorts to cover then but what I need to know is if chlorine will infect them. Would I be able to swim so I can get credit? How old should the cuts be before I swim? Also, the cuts are pretty shallow.

I don't think that they'll get infected. If anything they'll sting like crazy.

If anything, I think chlorine would disinfect them--they put it in the pool to disinfect the water. It's not just in there to smell funny :P I would imagine that the water would sting a bit, though you should be fine swimming whenever you need to.

Well, if it were three days ago, the cuts should be healing. The chorline should help the process along, just stay strong, and when it doubt, say you're on your period if it hurts too much.

It shouldn't hurt that bad if it's been a few days. And don't worry about the chlorine infecting them, it'l hep them heal faster, I used to go swimming with cuts, from cutting for otherwise, all the time. It'll be fine, just like any other cut you might have.

The chlorine will clean them and, if anything, prevent infection. If they are still open though, they might hurt.

Chlorine should help clean them not infect them. Just be careful about your shorts riding up.
