...Thought on them?
A 14 year old girl I know, born 1998, is supposedly getting a decent sized tattoo at the end of the month. There is also a kid in one of my classes who has large writing on his arms and legs, and they are very good tattoos, BUT, he's only sixteen.
While some turn out good, you more often than not hear horror stories of under aged kids with tattoos.
Regardless of whether the tattoo turns out good or not, I think any tattooist willing to break their law shouldn't be tattooing.
I know tattoos are really fucking great, but I don't see the rush to get them done either. But that's just my opinion. What's yours?

in a lot of places, a person can get a tattoo when they are 16 WITH PARENT PERMISSION and 18 alone. i have a cousin who got one when he was 17, because his mom gave my mom permission to get one(his mom had to go somewhere). If a tattoo artist is inking a 14 year old, with or without the permission of that person's parent, it is illegal and the parents and tattoo artist ussually get fined and possible arrested/put out of business forever as it can be seen as a form of child abuse. but to get one before you turn 18, you have to be atleast 16 with parent permission.
i know all of this, because i have done my research and want to get a tattoo.

I'm not into tattoos, but I don't see anything wrong with a teenager getting one, as long as they're 13+ I don't see a problem with it, any younger than that though, then it might seem a little fucked up.

Yeah, I know some places allow 16. In Australia the legal age is:
SA(my state): 18+ only.
ACT: 16 (with parental consent).
NT: No specific laws, but must give consent.
QLD: 18+ only.
TAS: No specific laws, but must give consent.
NSW: 16 (with parental consent).
VIC: 18+ only.
WA: 16 (with parental consent).
I think the whole country should just agree on one law. I know it's not a huge issue and not the most important, but it would make things a lot more simple.

Still, shop around. Do some research. Just because they have a license, doesn't mean they are great tattooists.

Assuming you're in the US, I do agree that tattooists who will knowingly tattoo someone underage (I'm guessing you can always use a fake ID though) probably shouldn't be practicing, but I also think that if a kid has the cash and the will to get a tattoo then they should go ahead. I got my tattoo when I was 16 (parents have no idea) and haven't regretted anything about it for a second.

Defo wait until you are at least 18 if not more. Personally, I don't like them at all at any age. Remember that they last forever, even when you are 80.

I would say to wait for it, but alot of us teens out there are really impatient. But it's not always the tattoo artists fault, I mean do you know how easy it is to make a tattoo gun, or even get a hold of an actual professional tattoo gun. I say if they want to get one, then that's their thing, mainly because I'm the type that isn't judgmental about people I don't know personally. Like how many posts above point out, in some places you can get a tattoo with parental permission.

I got my first at 16, and its big, every state in the US has different law, some you can get tattoos at 16 but need parent permission, other states say the person has to be 18 even with parents permission, that's the case in New York, so I crossed state boarders and went to Connecticut. Their are about 3-5 states (well three, but could be more I just can't tell the wording of what I looked up) that allow being tattooed at age of 14.
But at 14, that's a bit young, I'm not sure where they allow it in Australia, but do her parents know, she plans on getting one?

seems like people don't understand the point of getting tattoo when you're 18.
This is why you should wait to get your tattoo when you're 18 your body is most likely stopped growing so your arms and etc don't get any longer and so on etc etc.
When you're 13 and get a tattoo to your arm it might look bit weird when you're 18 and grown a lot so your arm is for example little longer ... so why you should do that? you just ruin your own tattoo cus you didn't wait long enough?
If you want good tattoo you need to pay a lot not just 30$ yay..
and I highly doubt you can really make a decision like this when you're 13 on your own or bit older. You can remove the tattoo with laser of course but it's expensive.

To add on the above, tattoos can cost hundreds, my small one on my arm, was $150 I think? I don't remember too well, but a decent size could cost atleast $250+ easily. If you talk to her before she gets it, ask her, is that tattoo you want, meaningful, is it something you can see yourself at age 40? If not, maybe she's not ready for one, and should most likely wait till she's 16/18.
