Awkward Corner...

So, I like a lot of sports, and i although im not a that good, i somehow made the basketball team this year. problem is, i don't know how to communicate with my teammates. They're pretty much all popular, and i just feel so awkward and so basically when we're not at practice (after school we hav a study hall thing until practice starts,) im always just sitting by myself with my ipod. its not that they aren't nice, they are, and one of them has even constantly tried to get me involved with the others, but yesterday she said "hey, you're so quiet. i try to get you involved and all, but you always shy back to your little corner" i wasnt offended since it was true, but does anyone have advice on talking with them more and becoming friends with them?

Im pretty much the same when I'm in school, I don't really talk much ethier but sometimes I lossen up out my shell, what you can try and do is maybe just one day just sit down with your teamates and try to find a way to join in on the conversation, soon maybe you'll feel comfortable with talking to them- you dont have to be popular just like them just be yourself and people will find that you can be a cool kid:) hope this helps

i know the feeling. but for me it is a bit different. i am quite well know(in a good way) by my grade(freshman), being a finnish person in the US. i am good friends with the freshman boys basketball team, as i trained with them during the summer, but didn't make the team, and condition with them when i can't wrestle. but with the wrestling team, i am pretty much only friends with them during tournaments and practive, but otherwise i am unkown to the team, except by the freshman. and on weekends i have no one, except friends in finland, and that doesn't work out.

but become better friends with your team during practices and during the study all thingy. could help you. good luck

just try to find things that you have in common with them. like, a favorite band, favorite team, etc. just find things to talk about with them :)
