Does Puerto Rico want to become the 51st state? If it does, hey let's do it, the flag'll be awkward but who cares! If not, why bother?

well puerto rico is currently a United States Territory and for years people have talked about including it into the union, just wanted to know what you guys think.

Puerto Rico will be the 52nd state, after California splits into South Cali and North Fornia. (In other words, they might as well make it the 51st state, but they probably won't do it in our life time, because everyone likes things the way they are, and most people in Puerto Rico are Puerto Rican, Puerto Rico is not as culturally diverse as any of the current states in the United States.)

Theres 51 states? They dont tell us American citizens these kind of things anymore...Anyway, if Puerto Ricicans want to be part of the US, fine. But if they dont, Im not gunna cry over it.

PS. I think Virginia isnt really a state, its like a union. I saw it on The States, but I dont remember all of it.

The United States will never have more than 50 states unless we morph with Canada and split Canada into another 20 states... Puerto Rico's chances of becoming a state are so low that I think its pointless to talk about this. I AM NOT AGAINST PUERTO RICO BECOMING A STATE, I JUST BELIEVE THAT THE GOVERNMENT SEES THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE RIGHT NOW AND THAT THERE IS NO NEED TO INTRODUCE PUERTO RICO AS A STATE QUIET YET. Maybe in the near future (by near future I mean in 20 years, after the United States would already be totaled by Yellowstone erupting :P)

If they want to be, I'd be OK with it. They keep failing it by a few percentage points. I think it was 49% to join the U.S. the last few times. They enjoy the tax perks, apparently, but like the idea in principle.

Camazotz: Virginia, along with Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Massachusetts (I think that's it) are considered commonwealths. I think that's what you're getting to.

i dont know much about whats going on but i'm gonna say no. puerto rico is way too different from america to just become american. its not like we made the phillippines another state back in ww2. hawaii is nice so that could be a state. but we dont need puerto rico.

yea it is. im puerto rican and we have way different cultures. obvouisly ppl in puerto rico r puerto rican and as a prican in pr u speak spanish. that that biggest culture divide. plus we have different lifestyles. next time u say we r alike, make sure u went to pr and went to the real cities not the resorts

Because Texas is too big, thus we should either trade it for South America, split it in half and call one half Tex, and the other half Ass, turn it into its own independent nation, or the obvious answer, leave it alone, let it expand, then nuke it. :P

true..but the north eastern states are different from the southern states...and the western states....yea all apart of america but each culturally different.

Yes, but each individual state is diverse. You will most likely find a bunch of caucasians,african americans, hispanics, asians, etc. in each town in each state, while in Puerto Rico, you can't exactly say the same.

Good. I don't like the idea of having 51 states. We would have to change our flag. add an extra star. and watch, if we did get a new flag, a star would be right in the middle.
