7500 post face?

Well, after a lot of talk in my other suggestion thread, we have collectively come up with another idea.

Here's the idea:

We add a 7500 post rank/face. The artwork for said face will be chosen by holding a contest.

This great idea was mostly credit to Jupiter.

Voice your opinions on this please!

I don't think we shoud have a 7500 postcount face. All we are doing here is adding a rank for the sake of adding a new rank. This does not benifit the site in any way, shape or form. Plus the ranks go: New, 25+, 50+, 100+, 250+, 500+, 1000+, 2500+, 5000+ and 10000+. Adding a 7500+ rank would just mess up the system.

I agree that it's kind of useless. And that it would mess up the pattern which would without a doubt, bother me to no end. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. But more to the point, there's not really a good reason for it, except just for the hell of it? So I don't see a point.

Anthony already said he never found a mod that allowed any type of other face to be added to VT, even if this idea is approved it probably will not be possible regardless. And as I said in the last thread, I do not approve. We need to wait to hear from the Senior Staff's opinion on this, and then find out if it is even possible. Then you should start all the art competition and such.

I don't see how it's not possible. It's just adding a new post rank, which is easy to do, and there's no mod required. It's supposed to be in some settings in the admin panel. Not sure how it works with vB, but I know with phpBB it's easy to add a new rank.

By the way, when I was admin I never did find a custom mod or workaround to bring custom faces to Virtual Teen.

I stick by that post faces don't even matter. So I'm going to say no. It throws off the pattern, is pointless, and is just another thing that we'd have to hear "PART OF THE X+ POST CLUB".

There is a set pattern in the ranks. If we added a new rank, it would mess the pattern up (system was probably not a good word to use). The reason why we are being so negitive about it is because it does not benifit or improve the site in any way, shape or form. Most likely it will only lead to more spam.

As far as I have searched and seen, a 7500 post face does not exist. Therefore, if we were to create one, it would have to be custom, which Ant said he never had seen before. Also, I don't believe you can just add in a post rank unless someone extremely knowledgeable of our forums coding wrote a code into Vbulletin.

It's very, very easy to code another rank in. When I said custom rank image I meant being able to choose between a set of images. This is ONE image.

I think you can add a rank in the ACP for a vB forum just like for phpBB or SMF or MyBB.....but I need clarification for that. I still don't think a code needs to be written though :/ It might be different for vB....but I thought you could just create an image, upload it to the forum root or something, and then you can just upload it and add it in an admin panel.

Again I need clarification because I've never had experience with vB. So I might be completely wrong and you completely right :S

I personally like this idea. I don't think it hurts anybody, and it would be cool, there's a big gap between faces when you get that high.

Because they were most likely created with this version of vBulletin. That why I believe a new face may have to be coded in. The only face I can think of that we have used and disabled from time to time was the pink/purple Counselor face. Ant was Admin when we did that so hopefully he can offer some info on it. That face may be an original as well however.

By default it doesn't show a user rank image only stars I believe, you can add you own images via administration panel which can be any size or image (.gif's only I believe.)

Should be compatible, because all versions should be able to let you add user ranks (though newer ones may let you customize more, I guess). In fact I can't think of a forum software (MyBB, XenForo, vB, phpBB, SMF etc) that won't let you add ranks...

FWIW Its possible to add a 7500 face like any other face we have. What I was saying is that its currently not possible to add custom faces for an individual user.

I've always liked the current ranks we have. 10,000 is a big accomplishment, as is 5,000, so I always though the two were fine as the two highest. Hardly anybody ever makes it up to 7,500 so I never thought that it was necessary to have an extra step but I guess it's an okay idea. I don't really see any need for it but I don't really see any big reason why not.

i like it but the color is a little too close to 10,000 if you ask me. i think they need a light color up there cuz like all the higher post faces are dark colors and scary. maybe a lighter blue.

Red face may be too much like an admin face. Black or white face? I still disapprove because I think it is unnecesarry and only encourages spamming, but if it is to be done a distinct face that fits in with the others should be used.

What ever happened to working for something? I don't think we need this to appease everybody, nor do I think it's necessary at all. Working to get 10k posts is a big milestone and if you make it to that rank then you deserve to have a rank which is head and shoulders above the lower ones. I don't like how this moved so far forward without an administrator giving the a-okay on the situation and I especially don't like how this is now expected when Ronnie and I haven't even gotten a chance to say one word to each other about the idea. If the administrators of the website haven't gotten a chance to even take the suggestion into consideration then how can it be a considered suggestion which apparently now has a contest to design the rank icon? As of now I don't think that this is needed at all. In fact I quite like the current rankings.

To be quite honest with you, I really don't think that a new face is necessary. Some may say that these faces are outdated, some may also say that theyre ugly. However, I can appreciate and actually admire the history and the past when it comes to this site. The faces are just one part of that. Also I would like to add that let's just say that this was even considered, and we let people have a little creativity because lets get real, who wouldn't let their creativity thrive when it comes to making something? We would then have to change the faces for the entire site. Not only that, but given the face that we would then have a 7500 face, making other faces for other useless milestones would then have to be considered. In my opinion, there's enough post hierarchy as it is, I'd rather not add salt to the wound with yet more. I was also not involved in this approval and neither was mikey apparently seeing as the post above shows that. I really appreciate you guys trying to motivate and move towards something new and different, but honestly I'd like for you guys to see and appreciate the history that this site has regarding the faces, seeing as how they've been here for quite a long time. I know they're old, but I don't see whats wrong with that at all.

This is a good idea. As of right now, being at 5000 you have a loooong way to go to the next face. In the lower numbers, 500 to 1000 makes sense.

If you're worried about a little picture that is under your username, you should post less. There is no need for a new rank. There are enough of them already.
