Why are so many people banned?
And, can somebody tell me the average age of the people in charge of the administration of VT.

Why do you need that information?

Information about banned members is private information. Therefore staff members do not disscuss the reasons behind a banning in public. All banned members have been banned for a reason.

As for the ages: They are 17 and 19 respectively.

While you're absolutely right, B, I think the OP meant more generally. A generic explanation.

People get banned when they receive too many infractions or infraction points. (A mod can explain the system better than I can.) There are a lot of banned members because there are many people who will come to this site in the hopes of trading pics or camming with other users, as well as lots of ad/spam bots. When a site has been around as long as VT has, the number of members, banned, active or whatever, is going to accumulate.

You did a great job of explaining it :)

Are we talking about staff in general or just Administrators? Us sectional mods range between 13 and 17.

Yeah, you're probably right.

Just the Administrators.

Yay! I'm 14. And info on banned members is classified. However, I think you can pm an admin to find out.

PMing an admin won't work. They won't tell you.

Just as a side note about being banned...
The system works two ways. A user can either be banned straight up for being a bot, overage, or being found guilty of camming/pic trading among other various severe reasons, or they can be banned for accumulating too many points. If a user obtains 100 or more infraction points, they are instantly banned by the system. Infractions are like tickets, some are worth less than 15 points, some about 70, and they all expire after different amounts of time, usually a few months. Users however are generally warned once or twice before being infracted, either by PM or by issuing a infraction as a warning, or both. If you are curious, frozen members are people who have obtained between 70-99 infraction points. Some freeze's last only 3 days, but those are generally instant freeze's used by mods to stop bots or spammers. Other freeze's last until enough infractions expire to drop the user below 70 infraction points.

The reason they are a lot of banned users here, especially in P101, is because a lot of people try to cam or trade pics, which obviously isn't tolerated. It is extremely rare that a staff member will say why a user was banned, but its quite easy to guess in most cases.

Someone I speak to on Skype has been banned for "asking ppl if they have skype"

Now I don't see whats wrong with that, seeing how I've seen ppls signatures saying contact me or skype me etc.(see IAMWILL he has contact me , will he get banned???!?!?) Also you can put your skype or yahoo name in your profile.

Seems to be different rules for different ppl here.

That person isn't telling you the real reason why he was banned because users aren't banned for asking people if they have skype. If he's banned from the site then you may have an idea as to why, generally people who are banned do not have the best of intentions.

Stop. Mocking the rules, as you are right now, (since an admin already clarified this for you), will only lead you to infractions.

You should know, (assuming you read the rules), the policy on asking for contact, but if you don't, I'll quote it below.

Requests for Personal Information: Do not ask for the personal information or pictures of other members. The private messaging system can be monitored by administrators, this is to catch anyone abusing the system and not to destroy members' privacy. If a member asks for any personal information or pictures through private messaging on this website, that member may have their private messaging privileges restricted or completely disabled. If you receive any messages regarding any of this please use the report function on the PM system and contact the forum's administrators.

- Abuse of Private Messaging 1. Soliciting of any of the following: cyber sex, camming, inappropriate picture trading, inappropriate questions of a sexual nature, asking for phone numbers and other personal information. 2. Asking for Instant Messaging addresses with the intention of doing anything in section 1. 3. Harassment and trolling through the PM system will not be allowed, and if you are reported for it, an Administrator will look over both yours and the accuser’s private messages to determine the validity of the complaint.

Let's make two scenarios here.

1. A member sends another member the following Visitor Message:

Hey u seem cool, u got [I'll give a few example of what's not allowed] skype/bbm/IM/phone number/Facebook/twitter/anything like this...

This would warrant a member an "Unofficial Private Message Warning." This means a moderator sends them a message explaining what they did wrong, and what they should not do again.

If they do do it again, then an official warning is given, which stays on your profile for, usually, three months. If a member sends another VM like this to anyone, they are infracted, which is generally worth 25 points, and expires in about three months, but it depends on their infraction/warning history.

2. Next, let's say a member reports a PM like the following to me:

Hi

I saw some of ur posts in the puberty section, i wanna talk more about that stuff. how can i contact you offsite/what's your number/IM/any of those?

Since the member is implying he wants to talk about sex/puberty/sexuality, this instance of asking for contact information would not be allowed here, and would warrant the appropriate infraction or warning, as explained above.

Now, if a member ever asks to cam, or participate in picture trading or cyber sex, they are immediately banned, no exceptions under any circumstance.

And, maybe you're right, "mock" was the wrong word. :P

It's kind of a grey area with PMs. If you're asking for someone's skype or something because you want to talk sex/puberty with them, that is not allowed.
Otherwise, it's generally acceptable, but remember, there's a fine line between what's okay and what isn't.

Oh, and phone numbers and addresses really should never be sent on PMs, because with phone numbers, the other member could look up your area code, and potentially find where you live, and addresses, well, that's self explanatory. :P
