What to wear under running shorts (boys and girls)

For my cross country uniform I have to wear short shorts (the kind with the mesh liner in them) I know many boys (idk about girls) go commando in these. I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are on going without the underwear.
Boys: what would you wear with the shorts?

Is there anything specific not to wear underwear with?
What do you find most comfortable to wear?

If yes, when do you go pantyless? When I'm wearing a tight skirt and panty lines would be embarrassing, or when I feel like it.
Do you wear underwear with pantyhose? I don't wear pantyhose, haha.
What do you find most comfortable to wear? Underwear-wise? Boy shorts. Love 'em.

Well our uniform ones are crap so most people ditch them for other things and don't even own the uniform ones. I have some like you are talking about, and the point is the lining is there so you don't need underwear as far as I can see, so I go commando in those.
If I wear shorts without a lining I might wear briefs if I was worried about getting hard but I don't always remember to bring spare ones (I hate putting the sweaty ones on after showering) so I'd go commando then.
The only time I worry is if I think I might get hard (so briefs help deal) and I would wear underwear if I'm planning on wearing the shorts / trousers several times just for hygeine reasons.

Well im not on the cross country team but for track i wear regular basketball shorts. (the kind that go past my knees)

We have basketball, loose shorts for our uniform.. In sport classes just undies but at sporting events (such as cross country), compression shorts

I would wear running shorts or beach shorts with a lining but really prefer

unlined running shorts and wear sports briefs

I think the lining rubs too much

I would wear just nylon gym shorts commando in the house or beach

my dad says that mesh stuff is "built-in underwear" so i always figured there wasn't any reason to wear any cuz that would be like wearing two pairs of undies
