Does anyone here run cross country? And if so, do you have one of those meets when you just bomb it? I had one of those kind of meets yesterday, and I'm still pretty pissed at myself.

I run cross country. Our season just ended. Our team finished like fourth in the state or something. But yeah, I know what its like when you just fuck up.

Yeah, but only because I have good stamina so I always get picked. I'm not so into running but I can usually place ok. If you bombed it, could it be because you hadn't taken on enough carbs? I've had that where you just kind of run out of fuel and it becomes really hard to do something you know you ought to be able to do easily. Also if you have a bug it can bring your energy levels down before you even feel ill.

I had a meet like that last saturday at one of our last meets of the season. I think every runner has a day where they just choke no matter how fast you are.

I hadn't had any meets like that, but I had a similar feeling I although it was a life time best it was not good enough, 5 seconds of my goal, and now finals is next week so there is nothing to really do.

I feel that way too sometimes after a race, I'll have a good time and everything but just be mad at my place in the race or place on my team.

Oh yea, for sure. Earlier this year I had one of the best races in my 4 years on XC. I ran 16:15 for 3 miles. Next week at Stanford Invitational, the fucking biggest race of the year besides NCS and State Championships, I completely bombed and just ran horribly. Not to mention I had to stop halfway through the race to put my shoe back on (had a timing chip on it, couldn't just leave it). I think I ran 18:30 or something for a 5k. I should've been around 16:30 or less. I was really pissed because that was the last time I'll ever race there, but I'm over it now.

I had one of those meets last year. I was really sick but it was the very last meet of the normal season and the most important one to our school, so I refused to admit I was sick because I really wanted to run in it. I ended up running ≈3-5 minutes slower than my normal time and felt horrible the whole way, and ended up having to take an inhaler and low dosage steroid pills (prescribed by the doctor) for the next week cause I had such a bad respiratory infection and almost pneumonia. I missed out on the rest of the season including states and never forgave myself :P oh well though
