I figured since I sort of liked this guy, why not ask him out? We started talking on September 25 and I broke up with him today, October 24. I wanted to see if we worked well in a relationship, but he wasn't really my type. He said he was fine with just being friends, but do you guys think I should have waited longer before breaking it off?

It depends on realized you didn't want to be together because if you stopped liking him before the 30 days were up you kinda led him on.

I guess the best way to go is to start dating before referring to each other as "bf/gf" because then you get to know if you're really into them before it becomes serious.
