There's not a lot we can do to help with your self-consciousness (is that a word?). A lot of people feel self-conscious about a wide range of things, getting undressed around people is definitely one of those. Other than getting it over and done with there's not a lot you can do.

I also keep my shirt on swimming, mostly because Im very fair skinned and it burns super easy, but also a little with my weight.

Can you tell us what exactly embarrasses you? Because I had this same problem, I'm very hairy and have hair all over my chest and stomach, namely, which made me quite embarrassed too.

Well, I kinda had the same problem, but I ended up taking off my shirt to swim. I just hate the feeling of a wet shirt on. Anyways, I was chubby in my early days of puberty, and I used to be so embarrassed to take off my shirt. Now that I have grown taller and thinned up, I still really dont like to take my shirt off. I have lost some weight, and I am finally getting my self conscious level up about how I look shirtless.

The key is confidence! I use to have this same problem, but i started lifting weight and getting muscle! Do push ups here and there, and in no time you'll be looking and feeling better!

I don't think there is anything any of us can do. You just have to learn to be more confident with yourself and your body. You also need to learn to not worry about what other people think.
If you are at a pool and you take your shirt off, it's not going to be a big deal and chances are, most people won't even look at you or think anything of it. You'll be under the water most of the time anyways. And when you aren't under the water, you can put your shirt back on. Honestly though, swimming with a shirt will give people more of a reason to look at you.
Like I said, you just need to learn to be confident with yourself. Figure out what you are so self conscious about on your body and learn to be comfortable with it. Other than just learning to be confident, there really isn't anything anybody can do. It's all up to you, bud.

what is it exactly that makes you want to not take your shirt off? I used to have this problem but I got older and realised no one really cares, especially at pools and the beach etc where pretty much all the guys go shirtless anyway

Its something that you just have to work on. It is easier said than done but once you accept yourself, you care so much less of what people think about you. Take it from someone who just came out as bisexual. Its not exactly the same but the concept is similar.

The fact that you have an average stomach shouldn't make you nervous or uncomfortable. Most guys don't have a perfect body and most guys don't have abs. If you take a look at the guys at the pool, you'll notice that. So don't let the fact that you don't have a ripped body make you feel uncomfortable.
As for the body hair, that is something you need to learn to be comfortable with. Some men are just naturally hairy. There isn't anything you can do about that, aside from shaving/waxing it, which is a huge hassle. Embrace the fact that you are hairy. Honestly, a hairy body is something a lot of guys want. Embrace it and just learn to be comfortable with it.

Nobody will look at you. They have better things to be doing :)
If anything, people might look at you more if you have your shirt on! :/
If you go with your shirt off a few times you might get used to it. :)

As a nudist I've seen all ages and shapes and people with bad skin etc and there is always the option to look away if you don't like it. Anything that you think is wrong with your body is no one else's business anyway.
A bit of hair and no abs doesn't sounds like a problem to me at all, just sounds like a normal human body. Or to put it another way you don't have to look like a model or a porn star for people to think you are cute.

As others have done, theres nothing we can do. I cannot suddenly make you confident to be shirtless. If you feel like your not confident then do something about it, eat healthier and workout. But honestly, no one will care if your a little fluffy. If I were at the pool, I'm not gonna stop doing what I'm doing just to stare at some guy whos fluffy. I wouldn't even care, I'd probably think "Good for him". Honestly, people aren't gonna be whispering about you talking about you. If you make it a big deal, then it will become a big deal. If you make it seem like its no big deal, then people wont make it a big deal. Wearing a shirt actually makes it more noticeable.
Like for me, when I get an embarrassing zit, I dont really even pay much attention to it. Cause every single teenager has embarrassing zits.

Nobody is going to care whether or not you wear a shirt - if you want to wear shirt, wear one. If you don't, don't.
Swimming is not a fashion show :)

Hey, just know that you're lucky!!!!!!! Having an average body is so much better than looking ridiculous!!!!! I'm really skinny and don't gain weight at all in any way. Some people envy bodies like that.

Maybe you could try sort of easing yourself into it. If you really want to swim without a shirt, maybe you could try something like going when their are less people at the pool - early morning or before they close, something like that? Or take it off half way through your swim? Would that work?

dude about the only thing that will get you over it is just doing it. it always seems worse than it really is. I didnt always like being shirtless, and even now i have far from a perfect body but very few people do... But in all honesty, wearing a shirt in the water is going to draw a ton more attention to you.

dude i'm a freaking scarecrow. no chest at all. so i know what you mean. i finally just said fuck it it's not like people think i've buff just cuz i got my shirt on. they already know i'm scrawny. they don't even look at me twice when i take it off. i felt really self conscious the first few times but now i don't even think about it. so yeh realize you will feel like crap but do it anyway and soon you won't feel like crap anymore. trust me. i have truly been there done that. and i'm still a scarecrow but i don't care who knows it. i even have a no-shirt pic in my photo album on here.

Just do it. You'll get used to it pretty fast. It's great that guys have the option to not wear a shirt so take advantage. Going to a pool or beach where you don't know anyone could help you get started.

Don't worry about what others think when ur shirtless, be proud of who u are. You just gotta be brave. I like being shirtless & i'm proud of how I look. I swim shirtless in the pool & i'm shirtless when at gymnastics.
