*This is my first time posting about this stuff and I'm not sure I'm in the right place, so please lock or delete it if needs be. *

I am just suuuuper excited for windows to release their windows 8 surface rt and pro. I seriously get the tingly feelings inside just thinking about it. I know I wont be getting on for a while, but my dads work has them pre-ordered and said i could potentially mess around with them. I am just sooooooo pumped. Anyone else into/excited for this? or is it just me..?

I feel the same way about 8 that I did about 7 before it was released. That it looks ridiculous, will probably be ridiculous and no doubt buggy as hell for a few months. Regardless, I'll probably like it within 6 months or so. I just hope that they don't go too far with the integration, especially the advertisements that seem to be built into the OS.

I really think Windows 8 would excel in those convertible laptops/tablets. I don't really care too much about the Surface, though. I still prefer the iPad as a tablet.

I feel quite excited. Its something brand new. Ive also heard its pretty good.

Personally, i like the idea of windows 8 on a tablet but windows 8 on a desktop is pretty awkward.

in windows 8 homebrew will be made impossible unless virtual machine is added to the software list, however this also lowers the virus threat that windows 7 has. I'm gonna try it in Virtual machine when it is released tomorrow, if I like it and my sis likes it then I'm gonna upgrade my sis to the new system because its less demanding on her laptop. I'll probably use it too if I like it. I've always been greeting to changes. mostly because change can be really interesting in my opinion. not to mention it will give me something to do. But, I hope minecraft can be run on the new system.

despite what the uninformed idiots say, Windows 8 is amazing. Better performance, better battery life, overall faster, and pretty much everything that worked before still works, just as good or even better.

I wish I had the money for a Surface, but for now I have to wait before getting one. I will settle for upgrading my Desktop and Laptop to 8 :)

Microsoft products are nothing to get excited about.

Nah, I disagree. The Surface actually looks pretty neat, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I love the design of it much more than the iPad's.

Though honestly, I'd rather save up for one of them new iMacs than a tablet, of any brand... :P

For those of you who say that Windows 8 on a desktop would be pretty awkward, it actually isn't. I haven't used it with a mouse, but a few days ago I was at Staples playing around with the new Windows 8 laptops they had in stock (before release) and it was actually nice to use. The experience was best with the touchscreen laptops and the twist laptops, but even with the normal ones it was nice to use. It's really different than Windows NT, and multitasking seems almost nonexistant when compared to Windows NT.

So...basically restricting yourself from doing anything. Huh, well, okay!

however this also lowers the virus threat that windows 7 has.
Your argument is invalid -- Unix has been mostly virus-proof ever since SysVR4(and that was 1988), as have been most derivatives.
And we don't need any of this restriction crap.

See, this is where I support Apple more than M$(relatively speaking, I support neither very much), because at least the GCC is available on MacOS. This does not seem to be the case with Windoze 8.

But, I hope minecraft can be run on the new system.
If the makers pay M$ enough, then they'll get in.

How retarded can some people be u.u'

The most popular OS will always be "unsafe". Is not about security itself, but rather how many people use it. The more people use it, the more attractive it is to breach the system's security. Lack of security exploits and viruses just means the software isn't popular enough.

In Windows 8, homebrew works exactly the same as it did in Windows 7, except better, because now you also have apps. And yes, Windows 8 supports sideloading apps right out of the box! You can download and install apps from their developers sites without going through the Windows 8 store! The only difference is these will ALWAYS need admin permission to be installed because they haven't gone through any verification or validation process. It is the user's responsibility if anything happens to the system after sideloading apps.

BTW, GCC works on Windows through Cygwin (if you happen to like that compiler for whatever stupid reason you might have). And cygwin works effortlessly on Windows 8.

Publishing apps in the Windows Store is no different than doing so for Android or iOS. That means is entirely up to the developer. The difference is that, unlike those two ecosystems, Windows 8 is still a completely open ecosystem. no "rooting" or modding required.

I think that windows 8 will be the best tablet operating system. It looks great, it runs smooth and as far as tablet's go, it does quite a lot. However, for desktops I think it would just slow you down because of the metro start button. But I must say, metro does have a really nice design
