I'm switching over to public school and I'm scared I won't have any friends... Any tips?

Well some people are friendly and some are not, just like any other school, nothing unusual. Just relax, i'm sure you'll have good friends, there's nothing to worry about :)

Just be careful to turn down any heroin offered to you and you'll be fine.

People are generally friendly. Don't worry about making friends. I'm a bit rude to anyone I don't know and somehow I have a group of friends. Just be yourself and I guarantee that you'll meet some cool people. :)

Notwithstanding my earlier post, seriously, private school/home school is a fucking joke.

Not everybody in public school deals drugs, is a thug, will rape you in the showers or is some kind of dumb antisocial maniac.

Here's my story, OP : I attended the worst public high school in my county, and one of the worst in the whole province. Literally. Yeah, there were a lot of dumbasses, and people got high before class behind the dumpster, and two girls had to quit school because they got pregnant at the tender age of 14. There were a lot of kids with issues in every class, a lot of people held a grade because they were simply deficient. From all the people I've known in high school, I know of only 4 that ended up in university, including me, and of many, many more that either went to a professional school or just gave up.

That being said, the difference between public and private school is that you will be forced to attain a certain standard in private school because of all the money invested and the work doled out on you, in public school nobody gives a shit. Public school is actually a much more mature environment. What you gain out of school in the public setting will depend exclusively on who you are, who you want to become and how much drive you have in you to succeed. The usual stereotype of public school teachers is that they suck, hate their students and can't be bothered to teach. That is not true. Public school teachers will carry you as high as you care to go, if you give them a reason to. I can't count the number of times I've been given advice (both educational and real life), suppletive education, invitations to writing contests and congratulations from my teachers, simply because I liked to learn, I had the motivation to and it showed. They readily gave me all they had because they wanted me to succeed. When you've got 30 idiots that don't give a shit and 1 or 2 in the pack that are bright and driven, you feel so much more inclined to help them out any ay you can than if you have 15 clones in front of you. It's like salvation, a breath of fresh air, the reason you do this thankless, underpaid job.

I graduated top 5% of my year and top 1% in French, top 2% in English (and like top 60% in math hahalol I'm not superhuman) on provincial examinations including those private schools everybody likes to put on a pedestal so much. Seriously, public/private makes no difference as long as you are there to learn.

Are people friendly? People are people. Some of the biggest douches I've ever known went to private school, and I met some of the nicest people I have recognizance of in public school. Perhaps there is more of a bad apple basket in public school, but there are equally rotten idiots in private school.

BTW private school have issues on their own. Rank is so important for them that everybody's heard a few horror stories of principals artificially bumping up grades or making the exams too easy in order to rank higher as a "good school"...

Our private school is like 16 kids which means that there is only one class for each subject (I.E There is no lower class, and the classes are hard) will public school be easier?

Some schools people are more friendly than at others. I'm a reject at the really large schools but I fit in well with the odd groups at smaller schools.

but that isn't always the case. just go around and see what people are like before making any actual friends or joining groups.

Yes people at public school appears to be friendly. You just need to be positive and talk with everyone with positive attitude. Just try to understand the nature of people and and try to adjust with them. I hope finally you will get few good friends.
