View Full Version : Help and Advice Section

VT is a growing site with more and more members joining everyday. Now with more members the demand for new and different forums will grow also. That is why I suggest the creation of a new section. This section will be called Help and Advice.
Now this will not mean the creation of new forums but meerly a basis where we can expand in the future if needs be.
This new section would contain 4 forums, Drugs and Meds, Relationships & Dating, Teen Sexuality and VT General Hospital. These forums current locations I don't think suit them best and would fit better under a Help and Advice style section.
As always it's your opinion that matters, so thoughts?

I agree. I think it's been needed all along.

I like the idea. The current layout is kind of bulky and this would help break things down a bit and organize things much more.
And I agree with Alex about those forums current locations aren't exactly suitable for the category.

I think this will be a great enhancement to the forums. It will bring more traffic to the VT general Hospital too.

I don't care either way, I like it the way it is, but if you change it, I won't mind. I'd say most people like the change, so I guess I'll stick with the majority and say you might as well just go ahead and do it.

I agree with the principles completely, but I know that there might be some complaining from GovTeen.com afterwards, because VT will seem even more of a clone of GT. They already complain now, but I believe that this good change will produce more complaining from that site.
I'm not arguing, but I'm just pointing out that possibility

Well personally I don't care what other people/sites think about VT. :D

Personally I do because I'm a part of both sites and constant antagonizing of a successful sister site bothers me whenever it's even mentioned

Yeah, I have to agree with Zach in that they will constantly bitch and moan. And if we could find a better name then we should implement it. But help and advice could work for a little while.

I would even suggest to GovTeen that they'd put a bit stricter guideline about antagonizing a site that's part of its own network. Sure, they have the freedom to express their opinions, but not to bash one because there are others on the same site as them that would be offended and it doesn't make the network itself look any better.
But as for the idea? I don't really care. It's all up to you others and the admins so you decide.

It's not necessary to turn this thread into a VT vs. GovTeen thread. If you have a problem with GovTeen take it with their administration.

Well you see we are like Gov in a way, a younger version of it. We have the same values and principles so it is going to happen that we will look alike.

Of course. I just find it rude that they will complain about it and it should be expected that complaining will take place and even, perhaps, antagonizing.

I will do so in time. Points have been made and the subject has been dropped on my part. It's up to everyone else to not poke the dead horse.

Also I think the Relationships and Dating forums' description needs changing, something like "Got a troubled relationship? Or just got a question or a story to tell? Come talk about it here!" Something like that, I'm not very creative with descriptions though :P

I agree, I think that the Relationships and Datings forum doesn't get much traffic, but I think we should do something to make the 4th wall more inviting too, I mean the 4th Wall gets the least traffic compared to the other General Discussions sections.

Not too sure about that one!
Where do you think in on the index page the new section should go? I'm thinking Either above or below puberty.

I'd say below puberty
-Psychiatric Ward
-Puberty101
-Help and Advice
-General Discussions

No need for a lock. This can continue to stay open in case anyone might want to offer anymore suggestions or feedback on the new section.

I like this idea, too. Forums being listed under a heading that defines their content. I wouldn't worry too much about *others* finding the format like *their* site, because you're talking about packaging only. The content, how things are moderated, how well questions and issues are responded to, makes VT in a class of it's own. You guys rock!

Yeah, i really like the look of the new H&A section, bravo!
One thing? I've noticed that the 'teen sexuality' sub section seems to be a primarily 'Gay' topic area, i don't know if this is intentional, but the result is that there are practically no het issues being raised. Maybe a sticky at the top clarifying the 'multipurpose' nature of the section, or maybe a seperate gay section?

Well the name "Teen Seuality" doesn't advertyise it as being for gay people, but I think that's just how it is!

Problems with being gay or wondering is a very common question so you can expect that to have a fair amount of topics in the forum. The idea of the forum is indeed multi-purpose and I agree with you that there should be a sticky or announcement explaining the purpose of the forum. I'll work with the new H&A mods to get that implemented.
Also this forum is fairly new as an official forum (before it was just a diary called "The Gay Bar") so it will need time before it can fully become it's full purpose.
