I have very curly hair. I don't give a crap but my mother insists I straight it or go bald. She is serious so I'd rather straighten it but I'm conscious about being called gay. Any opinions girls?(and boys, mostly girls though). I am not gay by the way.

If it is gay to straighten your hair, than I have a lot more gay friends than I thought. In all seriousness, it's not. First of all, an action regarding how you look doesn't define whether you are gay or not--but that's a different story. I know plenty of guys in my grade at school who are completely straight and straighten their hair though, so you're totally fine dude.

Go ahead and straighten it. There's nothing wrong with it, and you aren't going to be called gay. It's like Clint said, how you look doesn't define your sexuality. I honestly do not see how straightening your hair makes you gay anyways...

It's gay to fall in love with a man not straighten your hair, I wouldn't say straightening your hair is even feminine or camp. It's definitely not gay. Most guys straighten their hair to impress girls so its not anything that should be perceived as feminine.

It is called hair STRAITening. Right? And what makes someone gay is their sexual preference. Not their choice of what they do with their hair.

Straighten it if you want, but what is your mum's problem with your natural curly hair? If you don't mind it, why the hell should you change it? I'm pretty meek but if my mum had ever tried to make me wear clothes or hair styles I didn't like I would have flat out refused.

You are way more likely to get shit for being 'bald' obviously and unless your school has a problem with your hair (and they're on dodgy ground right there) which a simple haircut should fix, then if your mum STILL wants you to change your hair and you refuse, what the fuck is she going to do? Shave you bald in your sleep? I honestly think if she doesn't back off you could report her to social services on this one.

If you straighten it make sure you know EXACTLY what moisturizers to use.
Curls have a harder time getting all of the natural oils, since they're so uh curly.
Straight but brittle, dry and damaged hair is unattractive. You'll find it breaking, flaking, becoming rough, lack of luster, you've got to know how to help it when it's not in its natural state.

No, it is not gay for a guy to straighten their hair. When I first started straightening my hair, I had a few people say gay crap about my hair (as if I didnt have enough gay rumors about me, but rumors will be rumors). It was really from the people who always say faggot and such all the time, so go figure. Anyways, I also have curly hair and I straighten my hair too. So, its normal and not gay for a guy to straight his hair.

I used to straighten my hair, and no one thought I was gay, I only cut my hair because I got tired of treating it everyday.

But you have straight hair - perhaps it is straight hair that is making you make out with guys? I have straight hair too ... maybe just having straight hair makes you gay ???

As others have pointed out, its usually the guys who are themselves really insecure who are bothered about 'gay' activities (in their eyes). These are ignorant people who don't believe gays can be manly, so anything non-manly is inherently gay. It is flawed logic (fallacy of affirming the consequent) based on a flawed premise (garbage in, garbage out).

I mean I'm pretty sure the emo punks of the mid-2000s straightened their hair and most of them were straight so
