As Google suffers a catastrophic nose-dive in its market value, analysts are already predicting its demise as the world's lead Internet search engine.
'[Google] could disappear in five to eight years and disappear in the sense that Yahoo used to be the king of search,' said Eric Jackson, the founder and managing member of Ironfire Capital, a technology-focused hedge fund. 'Now, for all intents and purposes, Yahoo has disappeared,' he said on CNBC Friday.

Yes, because I am using DuckDuckGo. Why? Because it does not take my personal search history and other related data and sell it to companies and governmental agency without my consent.

Eventually it'll die out like everything else. But it said 5-8 years, so...

Google will disappear eventually, just like every other big company. Hopefully Facebook goes before Google, but both will vanish eventually. People get bored.

Everything comes to an end. I liked the Google doodles but we'll learn to live without them.

Nothing can last forever. 5 years may be a bit soon(there's the Daily Mail for ya), but in 10 years I think Google will be gone, for all practical purposes.
Google realises that. Facebook realises that. Yahoo realised that, although they are still denying it.

I've been using DuckDuckGo, Blekko, and IxQuick for about a year now. I trust them, because they not only have more reliable results (http://dontbubble.us/), but for the added privacy as well. Plus, Blekko's "slashtags" are pretty neat, as well.

They were only good for a search engine.
I'm not happy with how far they've stuck their fingers into my pie. When I realized my contacts on my phone were visible on my google account, which I never wanted, they crossed my line.

Bye-bye google <3

I love Google, the web browser is great! If and when the actual search engine dies out, I hope the browser still exists.

It is very naive to think Google will 'disappear' in 5-8 years. Market value is varying all the time. Google will be on top for quite a while longer.

I think, yes, all companies must dissolve eventually, but google does a great job of adapting. they started as an internet search and now they compete in the phone, tv, and nearly everything else sort of technological market.
