Right... I know this sounds incredibly gross, but I'm kinda concerned.

I went to the restroom a little bit ago, and my stool was red. Like completely red. Concerned, I did some research and it suggests bleeding, or other health problems, and I should see my doctor.
Of course, I'm scared as shit... I don't know what I may have done, but could it be food related?
I'm trying to think of all the red-ish foods that I've had within the last 24 hours:

I had some cupcakes recently that I added this really odd red cake dye that stains really easily.
Today, I also made some pancakes, and put strawberry preserves on it.
I also had some bacon, but I don't think it could've caused it :P

So... do you guys think it's a medical situation? Or is it something related to my diet, and will go away?

Thanks.

You could have torn something in there because even red food shouldn't cause it to be red

Hopefully that puts you at ease a bit. The thing that caused suspicion for me is the red food coloring in the cupcakes. In all honesty, if you don't feel any pain, and everything else seems to be fine, I think that all it is is the red food coloring, because I've heard of it causing red stool before. However, as the article says, if it persists after a couple more bowel movements, then I would approach a doctor about it, because by that point in time it would have already gotten out of your system.

You ate red dye.... that will definitely do it. Don't worry about a thing.

I'm going with Ant said. Different kinda of food dyes will do that to you. Sometimes when children have juices or foods that have a lot of dyes in them to get "fun" coloring it happens to them too. Since older kids and adults generally don't eat as much food that has been dyed or colored artificially (compared to children at least) you don't see it as much with them - but if it keeps happening after you haven't had the red dye then I would definitely see a doctor.

Food coloring is pretty amazing stuff. I remember being with a friend who ordered some tutti-fruiti ice cream...it was primarily a turquoise color.

Guess what he found the next day. Yep Turquoise .

HAH!

Maybe you were a little heavy handed with the amount of red-dye?

That stuff should have a warning label on there hahahaha
