Just a thought. If someone's account is banned; then that account should be deleted. two reason that i can think of. One, it could save space in the database or something. Two, so that person doesn't have to see his/her account and get all sad.

Well, if we were to delete accounts, all their posts/threads/announcements would be deleted too. It'd make holes in the forum content, so I doubt that'll ever happen. Sorry!

Pat pretty much summed it up.

To add to what Pat said if we were to delete accounts upon people being banned people would PM moderators saying "What happened to blah user" as there would be no trace of them on the forums.

No, accounts will not be deleted. If accounts are to be deleted then all of their information is deleted off the database and there would be no stopping anybody from making a second account to avoid their ban. When an account is deleted, all of the IP history for that account goes with it - so all in all it opens up a window for members who should not be on the site to come back and continue doing whatever it was that got them banned in the first place.

Precisely. It would create SO many holes in threads that some threads would have to be entirely deleted.

"Get all sad"? Nah, when you're banned, you're banned for a reason. If you do things worthy of a banning, then you probably never meant well in the first place, and probably feel no emotion associated with that, except maybe anger.

plus, they can never get unbanned like many people have been

Well as it happens even if their account is deleted their post will still be there as they have to be deleted a different way, it will just appear as "Guest (Username)".

So this suggestion could well be implemented, however it probably wouldn't as some bans are short and some can be disputed even if it is displayed as a perm ban.

I'll quote myself :P

It's more so a security thing. As I said, when accounts are deleted so are the IP addresses they used, allowing duplicate accounts to be made without any way of catching it.

True but admins still might figure out that you were someone who was banned and you created another account....so it wouldn't exactly work.

But they'd know how to be sneakier and do it a different way and there is no way to be certain it's the same person

I really think only idiots would be spotted by admins, but a lot of people who get banned are idiots in the first place :P

Every topic that is answered should be locked, then? Naw, it's fine. It's not doing anybody any harm and what if the OP has a related question? Then he can't ask it in his thread. Sorry to inconvenience you.
