Now recently, people I know have been talking about how electronic music (dubstep, ambient, house, electronica etc.) isn't actually music as it's made on a computer or whatever. So, I was wondering what your opinion is on electronic music and why?
Personally, I believe it should be considered as an actual musical genre as the creation of it does require musical and technological knowledge to produce. You need to know different music techniques like ostinati, syncopation and knowledge of different tempos. Just my thoughts

Computers can be instruments if you ask me. Even if they aren't, electronic music still has all the characteristics of music.

I agree with Eliza, I consider a computer as an instrument. I consider anything that makes a beat is music. Just because most electronic music doesn't really have many instruments in the making of it's music, doesn't mean its not music. Going back to a computer being or not being an instrument, think of it as PVC pipes with "The Blue man Group." A PVC pipe is not a musical instrument, but "The Blue Man Group" used it has a musical instrument and created songs with it or did covers of songs with it. A computer is not really a musical instrument, but it can used as a musical instrument, thus, making it a musical instrument. So, whatever makes a beat, I consider it as music.

Yeah, I've seen some pretty neat instruments purely for electronic music as well- I can't be assed to find the video right now, but I know one of the musicians in Pendulum plays this guitar-like device, only it synthesizes sounds off this touch pad where the lower strings would go. If I had a few hundred bucks to spare, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

People who believe synths, and all electronic instruments are "simple" as pushing buttons are pure ignorant. Of course electronica is a genre, I think of music as anything that plays at a constant rhythm.

Please listen to Kid A and Amnesiac by Radiohead and you'll find the answer to this question.

Yes, electronic music is music.
There's bad electronic music and good electronic music.
It has a tune, a beat, a rhythm, a melody. How can someone say it's not music? I can see if someone doesn't like it but it is music. If they don't consider it "real" music because they're just "pressing buttons" then according to that logic, a piano shouldn't be "real" music.

It's ridiculous not to call it music tbh, of course it is whether you like it or not!
I really hate the music snobs who wouldn't say it's music.

Of course it's music! Music is essentially sounds, and computers can make sounds
