Alright, I've receantly been seriously thinking about my future, and what I'm going to do with my life after high school. So far, there are 2 options on my mind right now: Either go to college, and try and become a doctor, like my uncle who I really look up to. I think I could do it, seeing that I'm really intrested in everything that involves the body, and actually know a deceant amount of stuff with first-aid, illnesses, injuries, etc. And helping people is what I love to do, and being a doctor seems like the perfect job to do that. But.......
My family is also known for our strong ties to the millitary. 2 of my great-grandfathers fought in WWII, another in the Korean War, one of my grandfathers served in Vietnam, and now I have an uncle reacently got back from tour in Afganistan, and is stationed in Germany. With this, I'm obviously intreested in joing either the millitary, specifically the Marines. I feel like there I could actually make a difference, fighting for my country, which although is still messed up, I'd gladly die for.
So you see my problem. I've thought over this seriously, and talked to my family members about it, and some are glad to see me intrested in joining, while others would prefer me to go to college, and become a doctor. I know I'm young, but I'm very serious about this. Any advice on what I should do? And sorry this was so long, it'll probably get edited by a mod or someone anyways, but it's been on my mind, and I'd like to hear some other people's opinions on it. Thanks!

if being a doctor is what you wanna be then go for it
but your still young so you have plenty of time to decide
maybe try exploring other fields through your school like woodworking, cooking, and maybe auto mechanics(i love that stuff)
im not too sure what to say when it comes to what you want because nobody is here to decide your future for you. but as for advice heres what im gonna give you
try a bunch of different things, art, cooking, cars, anything hands on
when i started autobody turns out i didnt like it but i kept on it and i found i liked it
so maybe try something else. anyways good luck!

Don't put pressure on yourself to decide right now, kiddo. You only became a teenager a little while ago. I'm nineteen and I don't even know what I want to do. It might be hard to grasp since you've been in school for so many years, but once highschool's over, you can do whatever you like at your own pace.

If you tell yourself you can't do something, that makes it true. Highschool can be a real drag but I'm sure you can do it.

If you join the marines you make sure you do it for the right reasons, personally I love the marines, but a girl I've known and loved for 4 years now hates it and worries ill get blown up again, worst that's happened to me so far is IED debris to the face left my face a little shredded, but be warned it might mess with you a bit, I almost attacked my dad when he walked in the living room when I was sleeping, last time I visited him, and do you have support for this and stable home? Cuz right now I have to basically choose between ppl I love and marines, also depends on what you want to do you could learn a trade become a combat engineer or something, I chose infantry but admittedly that's not a trade skill after I get out, if you wanted you could still go to college join a ROTC program so they pay for school then after school you do your time in the military as an officer, a 2nd Lt. also personally I don't buy all that fighting for our country bullcrap we aren't fighting for our freedom we are fighting for theirs, personally I joined cuz I wanted to improve the lives of ppl in Afghanistan, primarily their women and children cuz I don't give a crap about their men, their liars and counter productive to their own ppl and treat their women like animals, oh and an added bonus is the Marine Corps birthday is the day after mine and is coming up soon, also noticed you profile pic, I was born near Mt Rushmore, you should have seen devils tower, crazy horse or climbed bear butte, I'm native so all that interested me, but the other natives bugged the crap out of me with their hatred for white ppl, I'm half white half native, so sometimes both races like me and sometimes both races hate me, oh and don't get knocked out, the military's little wake up stim, smelling salt things or whayever is amonia, which smells like really strong cat piss

Thanks for the advice. That's why for now, I'm not saying any definite plans on either becoming a doctor or joining the millitary. Hell, in 4 years, I might decide to be something completely different! :P But right now that's the only two career choices I'd like to go into. But for now, I'm just gonna enjoy life :D
And also, I've only visited South Dakota twice, but you got some nice people up there. Reminds me of how majority of Nebraskans treat others, as long as you avoid Omaha. Also, you've guys got some kick-ass ice cream up there! Couldn't get enough! :D
