He became popular through marketing campaigns that sold his image, is it that hard for people to understand? No one LET HIM become popular, the record company did that FOR him.

Who bought the records that made the record companies give him money/fame?

His fans. Really, Justin Beiber is popular for the same reason that any famous artist is popular. I'm not a fan of his work at all, but evidently, a lot of people are, and the money they spend on albums, merchandise and concerts is what got him to where he is now.
Well, that and the whole Usher thing.

Usher was so desperate to be like Tupac that he chose the first white guy he saw to be his Eminem.

Tupac and Eminem never knew each other. You're thinking of Dr. Dre.
Also Justin Bieber is popular for the same reason crap bands like Limp Bizkit, SOAD, were popular. People working in the industry offered them a deal and they made sure their music would be everywhere. I don't see a point in complaining about Justin Bieber either. His music is bad, but other then that he doesn't affect me personally, and I'd rather listen to stuff I like than be angry at someone for whatever reason.

If anything I'm jealous, being born in the very early 1990s I got to see some decent music but the good stuff was before my time, I feel jipped.

Ah, a celebrity question about how it happens! Those are always the most elusive, because nobody really wants to her the truth behind it all. People think there is only two ways to think about a celebrity: love 'em or hate 'em. And they want you to think like that.
The motto of every celebrity is "Love me or hate me, but please don't ignore me".
Yes. When you "love" a certain celebrity, they like that, because then you are likely to give them money in the form of merchandise or concert tickets. When you "hate" a certain celebrity, that is good too. But that last part surprises people. How is that possible?
Well, when you hate a celebrity, you are probably going to go around making jokes with them as the subject. "Hoo-hah justin bieber is a faggot hoo-hah". You're still giving them attention, which is what they want: to stay in the news. And that celebrity doesn't give a flying fuck about your opinion about them. Not in the slightest bit. "He who laughs the last, laughs the longest". And that person, comrades, is Justin Bieber.
The best way to get rid of a celebrity is by ignoring them entirely. Yes, that's right, if nobody ever says anything at all about them, they will vanish. Of course they don't fall easily, and there will be outrageous publicity stunts and nude photo shoots and whatnot, but after that, it falls silent, and the world moves on to the next teenage idol in line.
But what happens to Justin Bieber? Well, for one, he's set for life. He's got all the money he needs. It's brilliant! He won't have to work in his life, and if he does, he can retire early. He can go to a good college with all that money, and spend the rest of his days relaxing, counting his stacks of dollar bills on the chair next to the indoor pool in his mansion. Oh, what a life that would be! And for so little effort, too!
Absolutely brilliant! I would like to live like that too!
tl;dr? What? You asked. :P

There is still a lot of good, new, music out there, you just gotta be willing to search for it.. Besides that why would you let Justin Bieber be the thing to ruin everything for you? That's just really silly.

To respond to your last quote, By not buying modern music at all (I don't buy music from anyone who's career peaked in the 1990s or later) I don't support any of their trends. I dislike nowadays for a lot more reasons other than a single squeaker. The squeaker is just a reason, not the backbone of it. There are plenty of more reasons to hate now.

Yeah, I agree. Negative or not you're still giving him attention which ironically enough I've seen MORE negative attention than positive(I of course know no one who likes him) regardless, even if you don't pay for his stuff making long-winded youtube rants about how the olden days were better on his video still gives him money through the ads. Best to just move on with your life.

I don't make youtube rants. The only youtube videos I post are classic car videos and reviews of guns, if anything I give more money to GM than the squeaker.

Still won't listen to it, music is a lost art in my book. No one can compete with Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Ronettes, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Hall and Oates, The Beegees, War, etc. I could go on and on. Those are the names I associate with music and everything else is judged to their great standards.

Kind of a boring music taste. Aside from The Beach Boys:yawn:

Of course, because screaming into a microphone, or having a lot of electronic noise is so talented.

But wasn't Elvis just the Justin Beiber of his time? Loads of screaming girl fans, massive celebrity? The Beach Boys were probably the One Direction of their day.
You're not supposed to like Justin Beiber anyway. Your not his targetted demographic. His fans are like 5 to 15 year old girls. And some grannys who think he is "sweet". Barf. They're the ones who bought all his music. They LOVE him cos, well basically he's been specially designed to appeal to them.
There is a lot of overproduced, just-in-it-for-the-money type of music around at the moment, but there's still a lot of artists out there that are making awesome music so i really think you are missing out by refusing to listen to anything that was made after the 90s. Majority of the bands I listen to have been influenced by older musicians, so you're just getting a new take on older stuff.

I generally don't care what talent goes into music, if it sounds good I listen. I'm a big fan of things like big room house, trance, hardstyle and similar genres. If you have ever actually tried DJ-ing or creating electronic music you would see there is a great deal of talent goes into it

I can put bass into a simple pattern thats danceable and it'll be a golden/platinum record.

The classic Beach Boys lineup with Brian Wilson is the only lineup worth listening to, unfortunately :/

You have no idea what you're talking about. You probably think you were born in the wrong generation and anything past the 90s isn't worth it. You haven't even bothered looking into new genres and the expansion of older genres.

Pure ignorance. Making electronic music actually good and stand out as opposed to a generic piece of garbage you'd hear a 13 year old spit out in Fruity Loops is a craft which takes time and effort. In fact I've seen more emotion in Burials' music than Elvis or the god forbid the beegees

I, personally, really like GoaPsy Trance, in terms of modern day music. Drum 'n' bass is pretty good, too.
In terms of older music, I like most 80s music. I listen to some mainstream stuff, like Michael Jackson, Gap Band, etc. But I can take an opposite taste, too, and I love the Art of Noise, Divine(yes, the drag-queen dude :P), Depeche Mode, Jean Michel Jarre, Paul Hardcastle, and many others. There are some pretty good Dutch bands in there too, like Doe Maar or Frank Boeijen Groep.
My love of the earlier music started when I found my parents' old collection of cassette tapes. Of course, being the hipster I am, I have a tape deck in my room, and played several of them. I thought, "hey, this is pretty good", and I wondered if there was anything like it today. So, I discovered ShoutCast with its many stations, and decided I liked Hi-NRG like music. Where that came from I don't know, but I can listen to that anytime.
Before all that, I just listened to boring stuff, whatever came on FM radio(pretty bad stuff here -- I liked the commercials better), or some pretty bad techno.
Expand your horizons. Try some different things. They invented ShoutCast for a reason! Find some tapes. Do whatever. You'll find your favourite soon enough.
