I was working out friday and my legs and arms gave out after like 20 mins of ab workouts. Why does my body sill hurt even though it's been 2 days since I worked out like my legs hurt when I walk in the thigh area

It might be because you haven't exercised much before and your body isn't used to it, or maybe you over-exerted yourself.

Your body probably has not recovered properly from the workout, and you may have also used new muscles that were barely used before. Make sure to ice and get a lot of sleep after a hard workout. Trust me its worth it.

If your not used to working out a lot, then your body will feel sore for a long time. The soreness could last up to a week.

This will sound strange but what have you eaten since? If you haven't had much protein then the muscles will still be sore as they have nothing to rebuild themselves with. If you are training hard and don't eat a lot this will be a recurring problem. Try a protein supplement if you don't want to change your diet. You will still be sore after a workout but it should cut down recovery times

That's normal, I've been sore for up to a week after a good work out b4

OP - I sympathise. I did an extra gym workout on Sunday with a lot of squats and arm curls, and now I'm still feeling the pain in my tendons in my inner elbow and around my knees (more today than yesterday as I also swam yesterday).

Doesn't really work like that - muscular development (hypertrophy) mainly is the process of assimilating protein into the muscle fibre. Packing more extensile proteins in makes the fibres bigger, hence bigger muscles. The break-down and repair model is a myth.

The pain is usually soft tissue inflammation in connective tissue (tendons etc), but can be caused by microtrauma to the muscles (which does need to heal, but doesn't heal any 'better' than before).

A healthy diet with your rda of vitamins and minerals will promote healing, an excess of protein is only going to be peed out.

Ah sorry, I'm kind of a "bro science" guy, to me protein = muscle:P thanks for correcting me on that. As for the other thing I never really was good at human biology or P.E so Im not surprised I was wrong:whoops:

Haha 'bro science' like it :) I'm just geeking out because I study both those subjects and discussing it here helps me understand it better myself.

Of course you are right in the sense that you won't build muscle without protein, its just the 'healing' idea I was picking up on.

Fans of protein supplements follow the general wisdom that having plenty available in your system is better than running out, but in my view you are into diminishing returns if you already eat a moderate amount of protein in your diet anyway. I'm also suspicious that there's a lot of marketing behind protein supplements, it reminds me of the psychology behind cosmetics for women the way its sold.

Yeah I get you, I'm not complaining anyway I learn something I didn't know before when people post stuff like that:P I'm not particularly a fan of protein supplements either I prefer to get protein from real food, I only suggest protein supplements if people struggle on diet. I agree the oiled up muscular guys on the tubs do mislead people somewhat:)

Your probably sore. It happens when your muscles do an unfamiliar workout. Its from Lactic Acid and from your body trying to recover, when you workout you tear muscle fibers. While you rest, those fibers get stronger and get a tiny bit bigger. After about 5-10 workouts that soreness should get extremely mild. It shows you got a good workout. The true way you can tell if you got a good workout is if you notice your going up in weight, I add 5 lb after each and every workout. Make sure your getting enough protein, I try to eat a gram of protein for every lb I weigh. Protein is very very important, because it helps you rebuild, carbs and fats are equally important. Diet is just as important as the workout itself, so remember that.

That doesn't explain long term pain. Lactic acid is broken down relatively quickly simply by breathing and also by the action of the liver.

Nope thats wrong as I explained above. The only time you tear muscle fibres is when you've caused microtrauma which does not lead to muscle growth.

You gain 5lbs every time you workout? I may have misunderstood but if you mean you gain that weight every time I highly doubt you do. You may be drinking 5lbs of water during your workout out. If you were gaining 5lbs a workout you would look like Kai Greene in a matter of months!

No I add 5 lb to my workout each time. So if I bench pressed 150 then the next workout I bench press 155 lb
