People do have many different reasons but whats yours or the most common? Aside from people saying they wont eat meat cause of what they put the animals though etc. you can get animals that arent commercial, it costs more but if you are serious about it... I can understand city people wont really have access to that.

I'm going vegetarian because of health reasons, and I also love animals so that's great too but I don't think the animal reason purely alone could motivate me to be vegetarian/vegan. I think most people are vegetarian as a statement though. Telling the world they care about the environment, care about animals. Or as the uppity ones could say, they would "never ever eat anything that has a face". There's a bunch of different reasons.

I see plenty of reasons for becoming vegetarian (though I can't be due to health reasons), but being vegan doesn't really make sense to me. To each their own.

I like meat... I dont eat alot of it but I do still. And the fact lets compare humans teeth to horses now. Humans are well we are suppose to be omnivores, horses are of course herbivores. Humans have teeth designed for tearing meat and eating vegetation, and our digestive systems are not made to just break down plant matter. Being it takes longer, its harder to break down and well being a vegetarian for all your life you can miss out on certain proteins from meat. But horses, their teeth are all flat, they have a certain shaped mouth even. They have large stomachs to break down pounds of plant matter and why they are so "fat" looking.

I was both a vegan and vegetarian for health reasons. I felt a lot healthier, except when I forgot to take vitamins, while cutting out nearly all unhealthy fats in my diet. I care about animals, but that wasn't my reasoning behind it. I can see how others would become one for that reason, though.

I understand the health reasons, and to me heck it makes sense. And if it works, do it! I am underweight so losing more or anything wouldnt help me... I barely eat meat but I cant gain any weight being people say eating meat (protein) will help but thats not true.

I'm underweight too. Ha That's why I had to stop. You should try protein shakes. They should help you put on weight.

I'm a vegan, but i was a vegetarian first. The reason behind becoming a vegetarian was religon as i am a buddhist although many buddhist don't choose this path, after becoming a vegetarian a few weeks later i became a vegan because of the cruelty that humans cause to animals. Becoming a vegan from a vegetarian was very easy and almost seemed like nothing has changed. I would suggest for many people to try being vegan for 30 days! Good Luck :D

Because we as humans don't need meat. We only eat it because it tastes good. Everyone says because we're omnivores, we're supposed to eat meat. That's actually not true because we can live healthier without it.. We can evolve ourselves to be strict herbivores.
I don't eat meat myself because even if the animal is killed humanely, it's a waste of a life when I can just eat plants instead. Not to mention the crap you put into your body even when you eat the "healthiest" meat products.
Dairy products are packed full of unhealthy shit also so I am trying to avoid those. We are made to drink breast milk from humans not cows. Eggs are just a fuck load of cholesterol and even if you get it from a cage free supplier, they are normally just put into a barn with barely any room to move, and since they are constantly fighting with each other, there are more stress hormones in the egg. Blech.
I would rather not eat something else's bloody flesh, but thank you.

First before I start saying stuff, youre smart. I looked up on a ton of different places, humans actually arent meant to eat dairy. Being drinking to much milk can leak your bones of calcium. As for eggs... I have no idea, I eat them sometimes but its something I rarely eat. Okay now for me to start saying crap... This is not something we can change and its how are bodys are in comparison of strict, well only, carnivore and herbivores. Cows and horses vs say wolves and cats. A car and wolf, their digestive track is quite short in relation to their body to allow fast processing of meat. The cow and horse have a digestional track length many times longer than their body to allow for a slower speed to break down the plant matter. People on the other hand, their digestional track it is between these two. That being so, it directions scientist to biologist we are designed now to eat both plant and meat things. Not saying we should eat only one strictly. We arent horses, neigh. Meat can supply your body with proteins and other things you CANT get from plants. But Im not saying you need to eat meat, but its good idea to eat it in moderation. I really dont eat much at all and when I do its actually rarely meat. Being said I aint no skinny weak shrimp, Im underweight but I can pull my own and I work at a barn. So being a vegetarian wont really hurt you but theres times when it cant.

Umm, well I like the taste of a lot of meats (bacon, chicken, ham etc) but I can only ever eat just a little bit before I start realizing that it's cooked animal flesh and I start realizing how chewy it is and how it's a dead animal and I start wondering if it's cooked right and I get paranoid about the fat in it and bleugh..grossss. It just grosses me out when I realize I'm eating a corpse :X I really don't like fatty meats either and I hate fish but not because I care about fish, just because I think it tastes awful.

My mother is a vegetarian because she doesn't like the taste of meat. She then turned semi vegan because she went crazy about food and got the complete wrong idea about what's good and bad for you and now basically lives on couscous, avocado, aubergine and about 15 multi vitamins. Yeah, I hate even thinking about what she eats, when I smell some of the stuff it makes me want to puke.

I have been pondering on whether I should become vegetarian or not, I am a huge meat eater, maybe in the future.

From what I've heard, vegans and vegetarians are a little bit more healthier than those that eat meat, pork and other products. But they still lack the nutrients though.

i support vegetarianism for a couple reasons. i do believe in nonviolence, and practise that through not supporting the slaughtering of animals, but i dont think this is the biggest reason. that has to do with ones personal beliefs. i mainly support vegetarianism for its health reasons. such as, when an animals die, the proteins in their muscles after a few hours begin a process called autoputrification, where they begin to decay and release toxins. but there are many health benefits of vegetarianism.
im not super supportive of veganism, but im supportive of those who make the choice. diary has both some pros and cons in health, and i thinks its totally legit either way. im not vegan by far and would never want to be, i love cheese far too much.

Perhaps its a choice of life certain people choose to adopt simply because it goes against their moral values to eat animals, or against their religion.

I've been vegetarian for 11 years now because I feel terrible for the animals. I'm considering going vegan.

I haven't eaten meat in a good while.
However, this wasn't my goal. My goal was to only eat Kosher and/or Halaal meat. Since it's pretty hard to find that here, I just haven't been eating meat. >.<

Meat makes me feel bad for animals that died and it also makes me fat. Two reasons to not eat meat.
Veggies make me feel bad for plants that died(they are living organisms after all), and makes me fat(especially those damn carb filled processed wheat, rice, sugar and corn). Two reasons to not to be vegeterians. It gives you a lot of gases(especially those lentils and beans), so make that three reasons.

Don't know about Kosher, but for Halaal meat, you have to get the Animal to suffer horribly, by cutting off their neck veins and arteries, and until they are dry of blood, all that while they are conscious.

Well, I really don't like meat much(except if you mince it with onions and herbs), and I won't miss it if I don't eat it. I can survive without it, you know.

I'm a vegetarian just because my mom is. She's never kept meat in the house, so I never ate it as a kid. I'm not used to it, so now I don't like it. I hate the texture, so I just don't eat it.

I am trying to become vegan because of how aweful I feel for the animals, but also because its a very healthy lifestyle option as long as you are making sure you get all the protein and vitamins you need. I tried a few times but failed unfortunaly. I'm still trying and hopefully soon, I can not feel guilty for eating meat because I won't be eating any! (=
