Recently i've discovered the book, "Japanese Death Poems" (http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Death-Poems-Written-Monks/dp/0804831793/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1312518240&sr=1-1), it's a book of poems written by zen monks and haiku poets who are near death.
I found this book really interesting, and some of the works really deep. But it also made me start to think about death in and of itself. Imagine those final thoughts you have, those very last days before you die. Do you think it's peaceful, scary, or just the essence of dying with no emotion at all?
I understand that once your heart does stop beating small doses of dimethyltryptamine (dmt) are released into your neurosensors, causing hallucinations - which is why most people think they see jesus or satan after having a near-death experience. But before that happens you are still conscious, what do you think goes through your mind?
This is a pretty morbid topic, yes. Interesting none the less. I'm curious to see what everyone's opinions on death itself are, regardless of your religion.
