Hi, Looking for a few oppinions here. I was considering starting to train towards entering an amatuer natural bodybuilding competition next year, maybe not even looking to place in it as I'm to young but to be at least competitive for my weight.
Although today I have been kind of put off, I was texting a girl who is just a friend although a few people say she likes me. When I mentioned this she gave me the whole bodybuilders are horrible looking and she really likes how I look now "speech" she kept going on about how I would just look "roided up".
I tried explaining that "natural" means no steroids but she said its still horrible and that nobody would ever find me attractive again. When I talk about bodybuilding I don't mean a huge hulk guy. If I do compete ill be going for condition and symmetry over size.
My question to you guys and girls is do you think bodybuilders are gross looking? Also should I still go for it or should I wait till I'm a bit older and not everyone is so focused on looks to start a relationship?

Funny I was just talking to someone about this. No, I don't find body builder type bodies attractive.
What I like to see is someone is fit and toned and to have made some effort with fitness. Some muscle is good but only as far as say a swimmer or rower. I've seen competition body builder stuff on TV with potentially cute lads but honestly I find it completely gross (and orange - why do they have to be orange?).
I respect the effort and dedication from genuine body builders but I admit I'm also a bit of a snob for people who are focussed on vanity muscles. We had one new kid boasting about all the pressups and curls he could do last year and when it came to having to play sport he was crap because he was unfit.
If you are going to put the effort in, get some strength and fitness that is useful to you in everyday life. (If you are a builder or farmer I can see why you'd want to be bigger for eg).

Thanks for the replies guys, I reckon I'm just going to leave it for now, I don't think being really big would look right anyway I always get told I have a really young looking face so a bodybuilding child can't be a good look:D
Oh and orange apparently shows muscle definition better. It also makes them look like a bit of a tw*t haha

Let me answer your primary question this way. If I was to become more serious about physical fitness/working out, my end goal would not be to look like a bodybuilder. I tend to appreciate the more toned, lean, athletic look myself and thus I would try to achieve that.
Too big and bulky to me is gross/unattractive.

I think guys try to develop prominent muscles to impress other guys more than they do to impress girls. Think about it.

I am gay so impressing guys is always nice:P by the opinions of others on here though I just think bodybuilder is a step to far, I got a lot of compliments when I was training as a fighter so I think I'll go back to that kind of training:) thanks for your input.
Also I wouldn't really be doing it to impress anyone just to prove to myself that I could do it. I just don't want to make my life harder by doing it:)

Depends on the person and by BodyBuilder do you mean natural (like me) or steroid (like Jay Cutler) big difference lol. And, guys doing bodybuilding do it more to impress everyone than just girls to let you know.
I'm not that type of person but a lot of people that train just are trying to impress other guys.

Like I said it would definitely be natural, steroids are not for me. I already train as a bodybuilder I just mean taking it to a show level as in size and cut. I know a lot of guys that train to impress girls they aren't exactly bodybuilders though, in my gym they are the biceps and benching crew. They don't train anything but chest, bi's and abs. I've already decided against it anyway I'm starting back at my fighting gym along side my lifting routine just training now though I'm not going back into fighting. So I'm going for lean not huge now. Thanks for your input though:D

Muscle definition instead of bulk is great and very attractive to me. As long as you arent the size of the hulk and your focus is on the appearance of the muscled themselves it is quite attractive.

I don't see the professional ones as attractive, with huge muscles bulging and spray tan :P
