I don't really know if this is the right place to ask this, but has anyone's choice of what career they want to pursue been effected by what they have experienced?

Yeah, mine has. It's kind of dumb, but I wanted to be a lawyer like my parents until they turned against me. Maybe my aversion isn't rational, but I can't even debate without thinking I'm turning into them.

Abuse will be a part of us, it's something that we can eventually get past and have behind us but it's a part of us like any other major event in life. But everyone has a different story of abuse so some people are affected more strongly and others less strongly. I am still too young to know how my career will be affected really but I know already some options are no longer open to me because of it.

What careers are closed to you, and how did you find that out. I know people who were abused with all kinds of careers including ones requiring pyschological exams and security clearances

I know I will never be able to work directly with young children due to flashbacks, I know that from volunteering at schools. There are a few other careers I won't risk either but for various reasons I don't really want to talk about them. And like I said, some people are more strongly affected than others.

I was told was I was going to be. My dad told me I was going to be a computer engineer. I'm enrolled in a special program that my school offers where, for certain careers, you can take classes that train you for a career.
I've never had an opportunity to explore careers and if I do pursue this career, I will always think of my dad forcing me into it.

Do you have to continue in that program if you don't want to? I know in my old school they would switch you out if you asked them to and had a good enough reason, which your situation would count as.

Unless you want to continue

I don't know. I've never thought about doing anything else and wouldn't even know where to start looking...
