Well, from my understanding metabolism works due to the muscle/fat ratio. If you have more muscle, you are more likely to have a faster metabolism and be able to process fatty foods without gaining weight.
I'm not sure how you could speed it up, as I don't know if diet and exercise and gaining more muscle mass (from the exercise) would really work ... I suggest speaking to a health/fitness professional. :)

Okay I feel really silly asking as I'm sure I know but...
What exactly is a metabolism? I gather it's something to do with how fast food digests/processes through your system?

I wouldn't recommend using a drug. Run for at least half an hour a day and I guarantee it will speed up. During cross country season I was eating about 3,000 calories a day and maintained a BMI of 16.

Exercise in the morning! I'm a dedicated athlete and (among other training) sessions on a Sunday I have a 2 hour training session which covers everything, muscle building, stamina building, cardiovascular, everything! Anyway point is I can eat whatever I want for the rest of the day and not feel full, or put any weight on!

Simple

Hera are the important keywords.

Water - Leaf(herbs)/Veggies - Fruit - Exercise - Fish - Water - Fruit - Exercise - (Fresh)Mutton - (Farm(Not cultivated))Chicken

Last two? Yeah! Really, they help also. As they contains proteins and a chain of amino acids to help in metabolism.

And that's all.
