View Full Version : What'd I do to my leg?

I went to wrestling workouts with a friend last Monday and Friday. I haven't really done anything physical since I got home in August, and even before that I don't really do sports or anything, so I'm skinny but not very strong. Monday was the arm day, and I was sore but nothing abnormal. Friday, though, was a leg day.

Ever since then, my quad muscles don't seem to be working right... They feel like they're sore, but I somehow can't use them. It's better than it was Friday or Saturday, but when I walk, if I bend my knees they just kind of collapse, and don't hold my weight. I also can't squeeze that muscle at all, for some reason.

Did I just work too hard on Friday, or did I actually do something to my leg?

Sounds like you may have just trained too hard. If there was no pain it could be neurological (i.e. you aren't activating the muscle). With the soreness it sounds consistent with overtraining. You probably need to give yourself several days of light use to recover.

Next time you train, consider dropping the weight or reps. You can do too much, and what I suspect has happened is you have caused microtrauma in the muscle fibre which can lead to loss of strength until it heals.

From what you're describing, I think you just overtrained yourself and you need some time for your body to rest and catch up. It sounds similar to what happened to me a couple summers ago when we began doing P90X for soccer practice every day. The first week or two were brutal, and my legs were sore as could be constantly. After some time and rest on the weekends, though, it stopped being so brutal and the soreness began to subside. There were days where I felt as though I could hardly walk. I would give it a few more days, because according to you it seems to be getting better. If, after a few more days, it doesn't seem to be getting better, I might consider seeing someone about it, but I honestly think you just overworked yourself.

this is coming from a wrestler. first how well do you stretch out before wrestling? next, put ice on it. might be a pulled muscle. also don't wrestle for a couple days until it gets better. I wrestle everyday expect sunday's for 2 hours and during season four hours, and at the beginning i would be sore everyday, but you get use to it. if it returns after getting better, i would get a sports trainer(so a sports physician) to check it out, and if he says so, go and check it out at the doctors. but then again you might have just over trained. but get a sport injury specialist to check it out. normal all high schools in the US have them.

It depends how sore you are, after a heavy leg workout it's not unusual for me to struggle to walk, sit down, drive and pretty much anything that involves legs. You can usually tell the difference between muscle soreness from exercise and from something else but if you have only just began training then maybe not
