A word document I created today for a class is not showing up in the list of "Recent Documents" when I click-drag on the Word (2010) icon on the taskbar. Why is that? What do I need to do to get it to show up?

Is there a reason you need it to show up in Recent Documents? It's one of those Windows features that are just for show (kind of like Internet Explorer) rather than an actual way of opening documents. Try opening it from where you saved it and closing it. Then you'll have accessed it recently, so it should show up in the list.

I want it to show in Recent Documents so I can quickly access it. and I already tried to open it from where I saved it and closed it...it still won't show...

Can you not access it quick enough from My Documents? Just make a shortcut if it's that urgent.

I just want to know why it won't appear in Recent documents :/

Because it's Microsoft. You're better off just remembering where you saved it, and opening it from there. Much faster.

no thanks. I want it to appear in Recent documents.

Guess I'll just use Google to find an answer :/

Well, instead of maybe just sitting there and dissing Microsoft, why don't we try help the OP, and try to find an answer?

Are you saving the files in My Documents?

Yeah I saved it in My Documents. Last week I created a document, saved it, and it went into the list of Recent Documents, so I don't understand why this new one I created won't :/

Does sound very peculiar, first off you should at least see if it's on your computer. Just search for whatever you saved it as.
Other then that it won't be in recent documents forever so it's best to make a folder which I'd prefer on the desktop that way it'd be easier to access :]

Most of us could write a book out all the various Windows features which won't work. Instead of being stubborn you should just open it from where you saved it.

Have fun with google.

or a couple books each of features of other Operating Systems and software in general that don't work (or like in this case, that people think don't work but they just don't know how to use it)

Recent Documents uses the file open / modification time stamps to determine what a recently open document is: if your system clock was wrong when you opened / created the file and as such the time stamp was "in the past", all the Recent Documents would be newer than the file you just created (the time stamp is the only way for the system to know when it was created) and wouldn't go into the Recent Documents list. File location and accesibility of said location when Office starts up is also another factor, as well as access / permission to overwrite configuration files.

That is actually a very useful link.

uh I just realized...I think you guys got it wrong...it's the "Recent" part in the popup when you click-drag the word icon, not in the File tab of Word...

That is unhelpful and just plain rude. Your post is complete spam, refrain from making that kind of post in the future or there will be consequences.

I don't use Word myself, but would you be fine with pinning it to hovermenuthing?

Wait, I'm confused, do you know where the actual document is saved? It's not completely disappeared from your computer has it? In that case, maybe you just didn't save it.

If you know where it is, but it didn't save to your most recent docs, I'm sorry but it's probably just a glitch. I know it's an inconvenience but at least you know where it is.

Did you ever try searching for it?

No, it hasn't disappeared. I just want to know why it won't appear in the "Recent" of the popup thing, that's all. I guess there's no way I can get it to show up. I've found a temporary solution anyways.
