BANGALORE, INDIA: A co-founder of the free file-sharing website Pirate Bay has been arrested in Sweden on suspicion of hacking into a Swedish IT company linked to the country's tax authorities, says a report on The News Tribe.
ottfrid Svartholm Warg, a 27-year-old Swede, had fled to Cambodia after being convicted in 2009 of Internet piracy in Sweden. He was arrested in late August and extradited to Sweden last month.
The hacking of Swedish IT company Logica was discovered in March. The tax authority said at the time the hackers had gained access to information on several people with protected identities.
Pirate Bay provides links to music and movie files stored on other users' computers. The Pirate Bay has been down for several hours now. Media reports state that the PRQ, server of Pirate Bay, has been raided by Swedish Police.
However, the Facebook page of Pirate Bay says, ''We have not been raided. We are not shutting down. We like turtles, waffles and you. Sorry for not fulfilling your pirate needs tonight. It's ok if you cheat on us with another site, just once. We know that you still love us, deep down in your cursed pirate heart.''
This news might cheer-up the film industry but consumers seem to be distraught about the site going down. Messages pouring-in on The Pirate Bay's official Facebook page suggest that consumers are waiting for the site to be functional again.
''We don't have another site to go! This is the only website to get good stuff. Hope that whatever problems the site has, can be fixed,'' says one Facebook message.
''Desperate to download a movie goddammit!,'' says another. Although their Facebook page mentions that the site should be back in ten hours, it is yet to be seen if they will be able to do so.
