Facebook is embroiled in a new privacy row after it began selling access to users in order to bolster its profits.
The social networking site is allowing companies to trawl through its 900m users looking for email addresses and phone numbers so it can better target adverts.
The changes mean that if you hand over any details when you buy something - as many consumers do - that company can now track you down on Facebook.

Privacy row:
The measures appear to be a cynical attempt to sidestep restrictions imposed on Facebook by US regulators due to earlier botched privacy changes.
They have already sparked calls for an official investigation by campaigners who claim that the public have not been properly notified.

Doesn't surprise me at all. They will do anything to make money, even if it puts the privacy of a user at risk. They don't care about the users. As long as people use Facefook, they will continue to do whatever they want.

This isn't new. Facebook's been doing this since the start, and by using Facebook, you have agreed to let them sell or use your data as they wish. They encourage you to fill in as much as possible, because for every field you fill in, every "like" you click, and every picture you post, you become more valuable to Facebook.
All of it is sold, Facebook gets more money while you become exposed on the internet.

And the funny part? Everybody seems to be fine with it, because they continue to use Facebook.

To be surprised about this you've got to be incredibly stupid. Trusting Mark Zuckerburg to keep all your data safe and secure is like trusting Gary Glitter to babysit your children, doesn't take a genius to work out what will happen.

All the more reason I deactivated my account years ago.

Unfortunately, that isn't exactly true. Nobody I know is aware that Facebook does this.

I thought the same as you about six months ago, until I tried to tell some family members what Facebook does. They literally didn't care, told me to stop being so paranoid.

That's why there's fine with it -- continued use of Facebook constitutes agreement of their policies. See their TOS and privacy policy.

If you don't want your personal shit looked at, don't upload it. Simple.
