I'm gay but I don't talk like that either. There are flamboyant gays that do talk like that though. The reason people stereotype gays like that is because most mainstream homosexuals that you see in the media are that loud and feminine.

Probably because most people feel the need to "give" gays something to distinguish them from straight people. And I mean, you can't really tell if someone is gay, bi, asexual, pansexual or whatever just by looking at them, hence the stereotype that they sound different.

This appears to be a sensible theory - a desire for more easy classification. People seem to have, in general, some inherent obsession with categorisation, particularly in terms of other people. One only has to look around at all the stereotypes for more or less every nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, even gender of people to realise this. Part of this may be due to (moving further into my own speculations) a desire to perhaps separate oneself from some 'other' identity with which we may not wish to be associated.

In the case of homosexuality, using the example which has been given, one obvious area to attack would be masculinity/femininity (depending on gender of a homosexual person). Many people may believe that in taking a person of the same gender as oneself as one's romantic and sexual partner, one is in some way 'compensating' for one's own lack of masculinity/femininity. This is in itself ridiculous, as perceptions of how one gender ought to behave are often inconsistent between cultures, and are, in essence a further example of gender-specific stereotyping - 'men ought to behave thus and women thus, homosexual people always behave more thus,' for example.

Exactly. You have two things:

Media perpetuating the sterotype (remember the entertainment industry thrives on 'larger than life' stuff)
Gays who want to make a statement, broadcast their sexuality for a variety of reasons or who feel they have to act a certain way through peer pressure from their gay community.

So those looking at us from the outside only notice and see the what they are expecting, and won't be aware of how many MORE gays there are around them simply because we don't stand out by comparison.

In my experience gay guys generally tend to be sensitive, cognitive studies (of gays and lesbians) show we use both male and female thinking patterns. So I think its not so much gays are naturally are more feminine, its just that we don't often present as quite so 'macho'.

I think our generation (in the UK) is very different to our parents, because many straight boys now aren't so bothered about the whole obvious macho thing and I've come accross comments about how hard it is to tell gay boys from straight boys sometimes :P

IDK!!! Even my favorite people that I watch stereotype them (or should I say, us)!
Unexplained. Unexplainable. Never to be explained.
