View Full Version : Will the world end?

Okay wee all know that everything has to come to an end right?

Well I'm watching the movie called 2012, and it reminded me of these videos that showed weird activity of the sun. one was of weird solar flares one was really big and it looked like it was surrounding a giant sphere almost. or a half sphere. but the sphere like object moved away from the sun and as it moved away it looked like it was siphening almost. I don't think it means its true but what do you guys think

This news broadcast shows the object in slow motion

I'm still a bit skeptical that it will end now but it is very possible that the world will end eventually.

The world will end, however i highly doubt it's going to happen in 2012.

The only thing that's currently on the table that could destroy earth would be 2012 DA14. It's a massive asteroid that will pass between earth and the moon. Currently though, astronomers have calculated that it will merely sweep by earth, and won't do any harm. You can read an article on it here (http://earthsky.org/space/asteroid-2012-da14-will-pass-very-close-to-earth-in-2013) if you'd like.

but what do you think that object on the sun may have been doing? it looks like it was siphening something from within the sun.

I don't think the world will end in 2012, eventually but nobody knows when. as for the video, that's sort of scary

The video of the object by the sun doesn't seem real. Nothing that big could stay that close to the sun for more than a few seconds. The sun's gravity would pull it in.

Obviously the world will end eventually. The sun will expand and potentially engulf the earth in five billion years. It will get hotter long before then, though, and render the earth uninhabitable. There is also the possibility of a solar flare or asteroid impact damaging the earth. All this ignores the possibility that humans will destroy the earth, which is quite possible.

The earth will eventually be destroyed, but we will die long before that happens.

Manjusri

It's almost positively a prominence. It has a cooler and denser plasma than the sun. The part that looks like it's absorbing energy from the sun is the filament channel of the prominence. And the spherical object is looking down the tunnel.

So essentially, it's just another form of an eruption coming from the sun.

While i do believe in extraterrestrials, this has nothing to do with them. :)

The earth is finite, just as we are. We will all one day return to the star dust we were formed from.

but that is what is confusing to scientists. it dosn't make sense that an object could stay like that, besides this is also slow motion, in the full speed it stays for about a secodn then disapears

I don't think we need to necessarily worry about that little sphere by the sun. How do we know it's not an occurrence that happens every couple hundred years? And how'd it not get sucked back into the sun's gravity?

Either way, not much we can do. I don't think the world's going to end in our lifetime, not even 20 generations from now. But we have no way of stopping our destruction if it going to come from the sun, at least that I know of.

We're gonna need a few million truckloads of ice and water.

It didn't get pulled into the suns gravity because it was an eruption that came from the sun.

No it's not confusing scientists. They already know what it is.

We don't know what that obect was for sure, they assume it is some sort of spherical object, plus there is probably much more to learn about our universe. for all we know that could be some sort of UFO using the sun as a fuel source, or some sort of reaction the sun had. It might even be something seperating from the sun.

Sort of like how we used to think the earth was flat, a guy came along and tried to prove that it was spherical but it took a while before people started realising he was right.

How can we be sure what this object is?

ArsenicCatNip

They proved that the black "swirls" are a reaction of solar flares.
Also if the world doesn't end on 2012 it might end sooner or later. Stephen Hawking has said that we only have 90 years worth of resources left for all 7 billion people on Earth, after that it's basically dried up...

Silicate Wielder
October 3rd, 2012, 03:04 PM
Not to mention our constantly growing population. however, this mostly accounts for fossil fuel, and that is just an estimate. We would still have enough resources such as food and maybe water if we stop water pollution. In which case it we would just start relying more on ourselves to get to places, there would probably be a rush to switch to solar energy before we run out. that wouldn't be the end of the world, it would just be one heck of a delay.

Ugh, not this bullshit again 'money makez poeple greedy herp derp'.
It's not money that makes humans greedy, it's being human that makes humans greedy. It's that simple. If money didn't exist we would want other resources, just like the times before money.

No doubt the world will end, overpopuilation, limited resources, heck in 5 billion years there will be no earth due to our sun

plenty of people have disproved you already. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs. This is a huge rumor. Money can change people, but for people who know how to handle it, it doesn't. If you consider Bill Gates greedy, then you must not hear much of what he does. He is going to give 80%+ of what he's worth to charities (when he dies), and he already donates hundreds of millions/billions to charities.

It will end eventually. Probably not for a long time, but who knows really? We could probably kill ourselves off with nukes and other military weapons tomorrow.

And no, it's not gonna end - yet.At least i think so.It might, but chances are very low that will end any time soon.

In trillions of years, yes

2012- no

If it were a meteoroid or Planet X we would be able to see it

As for Mayan predictions, they didn't account for leap years meaning December 21, 2012 would have happened about a year ago

The world will end someday in 2012 probably not but it will at some point in time. The sun could run out of fuel (Our sons sons sons world be dead by then) the earth could also be hit by a asteroid only time will tell.

2012 may just be the next era of great learning. We could just start over, although highly unlikely. You never know, no one can take an orb and look into the future and say tat this is going to happen with a certainty. This is just one of those things where we will be forced to wait and see what happens. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it could be the start to a war that will end all of humanity. That theory adds up with what's happening in the Middle East. As you may see, I've given this a lot of thought, there are many theories, only one may be true.

The sun will run out of fuel eventually, but not anytime soon. It is estimated that it will take about 5 billion years before it runs out. I think we'll be dead long before then.

We could get hit by an asteroid, but we would probably deflect one if we saw it coming. As long as we have a few years warning, we should be able to defend ourselves.

Personally, I think the only way would be to minipulate worm holes or something along those lines. Right now, even if we'd have the engines that would be capable of traveling at light speed, we'd use up all of our possible means of energy in less than a split second. Unless we discover a miracle fuel, we're not traveling to other galaxies, at least not in a human's life time. Now if we made a shuttle that was capable of supporting human life, and be large enough to support a population of oh, let's say, 50000, and have it travel to our nearest Galaxie, the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxies for thousands of years, then we'd have a possibility. But that's probably never going to happen, so humanity just might be shit out of luck! :P

Why the devil not? In several years (substitute an appropriate number of billions for 'several'), the Sun will expand and destroy all life on this planet. In several more years, the Universe will, for all intents and purposes, be destroyed, as entropy and available energy will be so low as to prohibit any and all chemical reactions.

Either a black hole (not very possible) or a prominence (highly possible and harmless). What this race (all humans) needs to do is to put all our quarrels aside, and unite, make a lot spaceships and start colonizing other planets, first in our solar system, then the neibhouring, and than the galaxy! We might find some aliens then, and make peace/exterminate them ,I prefer the peaceful solution, since we would get access to their tech and we will be able to merge ours and theirs and get something better, and we will get good trading partners.

Will the world end? Yes. That is undeniable. When the Sun runs out of hydrogen and becomes a supergiant, it will consume the Earth. But I think that life on Earth will be gone long before then. Whether by meteor, volcanic eruptions, tectonic activity, or by humans interacting with the planet, life will be almost surely wiped out in some extinction level event long before the Sun consumes the planet.

And now to cheer you up after that: here's a kitten.
